Ruby-Sachs, you really did not expect more substance from the Obama Elect?

His entire campaign existed and thrived like an episode of Entertainment Tonight or TMZ. But hold on, even those venues vet a candidate better than Obama was vetted.

It really isn't about the dog. It is about packaging Mr. Obama as 'just like all the other heterosexual Presidents that lived in the White House'. He is a parent. This will be the equalizer which his supporters will use to assuage racist and Rightist outrage through the press. Any LGBT sensitivity in front of the press by Mr. Obama will be very hard to find for a good while. It's called politics. Our rights have no nationally elected savior. Yet.

What's with all the puppy chatter? Puppies are cute; they're even cuter when seen through the eyes of a child.

Relax. I seriously doubt that giving any consideration as to the heritage of the First Puppy is going to have any impact on the economy. Unless they pay top dollar for a purebred rather than adopting from a pound. That would be considered economic stimulus!

You may wish to take a moment to contemplate that the discussion of the First Puppy was a moment of levity. Don't give it too much gravity, lest you risk giving the subject more time than it really should be worth. There are other things to write about.

You don't seem to understand that the selection of a dog is vital to understanding the president-elect's future policy. It is one of the first real decisions that a candidate makes amidst all the bluster of campaigning.

Oh come on. He's the new president elect and people are going to latch on to any story that comes down the wire including the interest in the "first pet." You seem to think that this is something new!
