Ruby-Sachs: on ACORN

By Emma Ruby-Sachs, 365gay blogger 10.16.2008 3:18pm EDT

The FBI is investigating ACORN for voter fraud and I guess it was inevitable. But while I do not approve of the actions of ACORN’s more lazy employees and the lack of oversight provided by ACORN’s officials, I worry that this kind of scrutiny undermines the work the organization has done. Registering voters, especially in a non-partisan manner, can only assist in the American democratic process. I hope that other ACORN offices and similar organizations are not deterred by the mistakes of a few.

    • The irony is how much attention local and national TV news programs have paid to accusations against ACORN, but how little attention they paid to the credible accusations of voter fraud committed by Republican officials in Ohio during the last presidential election, which helped deliver the crucially important state to George W.
