I'm not an attorney, but even with my limited law background I saw this move as a brilliant stroke that will probably succeed in killing at least part of DOMA.

This argument (that DOMA infringes on the State's authority) has been suggested before, but only the states whose authority is so infringed actually have standing to sue on these grounds. The fact that Mass is actually doing so is pretty awesome.

How is this not the number one story? This is huge! We should be very excited by this move. I hope more people pay attention and this starts rolling.

It is always great to read that some politicians and legislative actors are fighting the good fight for the lgbt rights - and 365gay.com has been a very important tool for me to keep up with American on-goings in lgbt matters.

However, as an international reader, I would greatly appreciate the kind use of abbreviations - that is, try to remember that not all of us can identify DOMAs and UAFAs (without uncle Google). Just a common practice of writing the whole ordeal out once would help a lot.

But again, I must applaud Attorney General Martha Coakley for a brilliant move - let's hope it succeeds, and that other states would follow suit.

As I am just learning the sad news about the signature gathering in Maine, my future retirement state, it is refreshing to see leaderhip in my adopted home state of Mass.

Finally we have elected officials truly advocating for us. We have gays in our legislature and administration so have real support where it is needed.

Emma, thanks for the good news. My neighbors in Maine: start fighting...I was just perusing the comments on the Bangor Daily News website (I read a lot of letters about the issue when in Maine over the holiday) and it seems if these opinions are pervasive, we have a tough fight.

Wish I was there to help more.
