Ruby-Sachs: Call in Gay

By Emma Ruby-Sachs, 365gay blogger 11.19.2008 1:06pm EST

Join the Impact has a new tactic to bring attention to the civil rights struggle for LGBT people. On December 10th, call in gay. Take the day off, don’t spend money, get out and organize for LGBT rights.

    • In my area gays are taking the day to help build houses for Habitat for Humanity.

At the protest I went to in Charleston, South Carolina we chanted “Gay, straight, black, white, we all deserve equal rights.” We saw black men come out to see us, and put their fist in the air in solidarity.

    • don’t do protests.
There over rated, and the only people who go to those things are racists, Racists in disguise, and criminals.

    • I plan on participating (and no, I’m not a racist, criminal, or racist in disguise) but please be careful in states where you aren’t protected at work. You could call out “gay” and lose your job. I’m lucky – I’m out at my office and they support what I’m trying to do.

    • Because of the nature of my work (court related), I cannot assure that I can get that day off, but as far as the rest of it goes, count me in.
