Rocco, Here is even more info proving that Obama has continued to use anti-gay "Yes on Prop 8" advocates to actively shill for the passage of Prop 8 (And these are dates from his month long tour of several states just last month, which continue Obama's use of anti-gay bigots like Donnie McClurkin which Obama used on his original Faith Tour through South Carolina during the Primary last year. Obama's more recent Faith Tour made stops in several states last month alone: Among the states on the list are Colorado, Indiana, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Florida, New Mexico, Virginia and Wisconsin.
And several news agencies (like the Advocate link I posted earlier) have verified that Obama has anti gay marriage and "Yes on Prop 8" advocates actively shilling for Prop 8 on his Faith tours. What I said was absolutely TRUE!

Rocco, lets refer to your original post:
You said: Wayne,
You are taking an old news story and exaggerating and extending it. Since you are trying to “milk it,” it is only fair that you print the Obama responses to said fiasco. Something tells me you won’t. I find it impossible to believe you have “been a Democrat for years.” The Donnie McClurkin fiasco was several months ago, during the South Carolina PRIMARY. Please give the dates and locations of any “faith tours” since then

------------

I've provided several links that show Obama has continued to use anti-gay bigots and "Yes on Prop 8" advocates to shill for the passage of Prop 8 on his Faith Tours. You maintained that Obama only did that once back with Donnie McClurkin, and said I was "milking it". I have since provided several links to show that Obama is doing EXACTLY what I said. You were the one who kept posting that you were waiting to be proven wrong, well now you have been. YOU WERE WRONG. OBAMA CONTINUES TO USE ANTI-GAY "Yes on Prop 8" advocates in his "Faith Tours" one conducted in California as recently as last month.

The other issue I wanted you to address was your non-reporting of Obama's response to the McClurkin fiasco. It is only fair since you are claiming he is promoting yes on Prop.8. Btw, isn't your candidate on record as supporting Prop. 8? Also, I think most folks remember Bill Clinton getting caught promoting his support of DOMA in the South
during his re-elction campaign. Finally, Barack Obama is on the record as being against Prop. 8. That is well known here in California. Could he do more? Yup, but he is by far the best choice for anyone who cares about the rights of GLBT Americans. I know that is not your priority though.

It's called sleep Wayne. I work the night shift. Btw, these links you provided all describe the SAME LAUNCH of an Obama faith tour dated September 2008. Your original post described this as an ongoing event dating back to the South Carolina primary. You make it sound as if it has been part of his campaign all along. Rather disingenous I would say. My request (aggressive? not nearly as much as your repeated tauntings while I was asleep btw) was for the names, dates, and places of "all the stops on this faith tour" since McClurkin (South Carolina) to these repeated rallies (?!?) since September (and forward). So far, you have given details of ONE rally (the same ONE listed by each article) and indirectly referred back to the only OTHER ONE, just prior to the South Carolina primary. If there are other stops on the "faith tour" to which you so triumphantly refer, you have failed to provide the documentation I requested. Hmmmmm yourself! Btw, if I don't respond immediately, I will be back @ work until 0730 pst. I will continue to wait for the information/details I originally requested...

As a son of immigrant parents who's married to a foreigner, I've noticed an interesting thing about cultural values of immigrant communities and in other countries.

Weird as it is, sometimes immigrant communities are more traditional and conservative than communities from their home country. My husband's family, for instance, accepted that he was gay a lot quicker than my family did, even though they live in Asia, where a lot of the prevailing gender roles are more entrenched and harshly enforced than they are here in America.

My own pet theory is that immigrant communities, in order to hold on to a sense of cultural identity, sometimes latch onto certain ideas of what it means to be from their culture so hard that it becomes a parody of the original communities. It sometimes seems that immigrant communities are more traditional than the communities they originally came from.

Just a random observation. I wonder if there's a study been done on this.

Will said: The ABCnews article did not mean to look at all racial minorities as anti-gay. [Although I do appreciate you being concerned with this because it provides good discussion.] The article emphasized the influence and position religion (in particular conservative religion) has in the black and Latino communities.

----

Good point Will, but Ruby also fails to include one more relevant point. Obama has been actively exploiting the homophobia within the Black church since the beginning of the election! Obama used homophobia and hatred against gays to garner votes with the conservative Black community in South Carolina with the anti-gay bigot Donnie McClurkin, and Obama CONTINUES to use anti-gay bigots to shill for his "FAITH TOURS" to garner votes. These "Faith Tours" specifically target these very people (African American church goers) and preach that they should vote Yes on Prop 8 and vote for Obama. This is a sad FACT that Ruby- Sachs is quite happy to ignore.

Rocco, What happened? You kept posting (rather aggressively) that you would "keep waiting" for me to post links/sources that prove my claim that Obama continues to use anti-gay "Yes on Prop 8" advocates that actively shill for the passage of Prop 8 on Obama's "Faith Tours". You said I was "milking an old story" but several news agencies including The Advocate have reported that Obama continues to use anti-gay bigots in his "Faith Tours" as recently as last month in September 2008! I've given you several links to prove the veracity of my claims. And yet for all of your insistance, you seem to have vanished rather than face the truth. hmmmmm.

Ms. Ruby-Sachs,
I enjoy your essays at times, but again- and with all due respect- I think you have missed the main point.

You mention that "(you are) hesitant to write off minorities as enemies of the LGBT people." That may be all very well and good, but the better point- and it is subtle yet HUGE- was finally made at the very end of your essay! => the "hope that the ABC story does not affect the way we see minority voters in the next election."

The difference is the use of WE instead of the I.

This may seem small and trivial, but it shifts the concern of your essay from the intent of the ABCnews article in the beginning to how the GLBT community as a whole will view "minorities" at the end.

["minorities" is of course referring racial minorities relative to the whole population consisting of the white majority]

So I shall first address what seemed to be the point of your article at the beginning with the use of the "I." The ABCnews article did not mean to look at all racial minorities as anti-gay. [Although I do appreciate you being concerned with this because it provides good discussion.] The article emphasized the influence and position religion (in particular conservative religion) has in the black and Latino communities.

As you imply, one must not assume that all members of these minorities fit these molds- just like not all people in GLBT community fits in our "own molds." But one cannot neglect the fact that historically the church has played a major role in many people of these communities.

And the ABCnews article takes note that this year's election is likely to draw huge numbers of black and Latino voters to the polls. With these huge numbers, many people of these racial minority groups are likely to be conservative church-going members. And they will, consequently, be more likely to vote in favor of Prop 8.

That is the point of the article. If anything, the point that should be brought up in your article is how this is really another "simple" story of ADDITIONAL CONSERVATIVE Americans going to the polls.

Thankfully you do stress somewhat throughout your essay- and especially at the end with the "we"- the need for white GLBT Americans to read the ABCnews article and hope it "does not affect the way we see minority voters in the next election."

I must say- and I obviously might be wrong- that I assume you, Emma, are likely white because I highly doubt any black or Latino GLBT Americans have any problem seeing that "the struggle for gay rights really does extend across racial communities."

The point should have been that the struggle for gay rights does continue to extend across all conservative U.S. voters, including ones found within the racial minorities of America.

Thanks for providing me a reason to think =]

Why don't you 2 whom are fighting about what is right and what is wrong, go out in the street and fight it out. For the person whom said that this is the first time voting "REPUBLICAN", good for you, nobody wants to hear that, you could've just kept your mouth shut, and keep your hatred to yourself.
Wayne,

Right. Because verbally harassing minorities in a "minority-majority" state is really going to help defeat Proposition 8. That makes perfect sense. If we accuse all Africans, Asians, and Hispanics - who collectively are more than 50% of the voters in California - of being anti-gay bigots, maybe they'll vote for us.

Who do you think you're fooling? You're obviously a Republican troublemaker. Your behavior makes it all the more likely this hateful amendment will pass. Please stop pretending as if you're trying to help. You just want to further your pathetic Rovian "divide and conquer" strategy to help John McCain.
