WHO IN THE HELL IS PLAYING THIS BULL SHIT? So words do not matter? Then allow yourself to be called Nigger or Bitch or faggot or White Trash. Whatever the framers and signers of the constitution painstakingly chose the words they used for a reason. Words like ALL. A marriage is a marriage for ALL not for some and the bullshit legislation passed by divorcees and adulterers is just that bullshit!!~!!!!!!

That is awesome. I am so happy to see someone who has read the full opinion and not just the ruling and knows what the case law is. I have been trying to explain to friends for the last week exactly what was stated in the opinion, while they have only been hearing the pundits reaction to just the ruling.

I think we should start circulating petitions to recall the six justices who upheld Proposition 8. I think they ruled the way they did because they were afraid of being recalled by our enemies. Why don't we make them afraid of us?

Wow, looks like this time is was a majority of white people that decided to uphold this bigoted decision. You would think they know better since they are the least homophobic.

California is arguably in deeper shit right now than any other state ever has been. Aside from the $24 billion in red ink that has to be cleaned up immediately, there's the minor matter of the state Supreme Court tampering with equal protection. This will have ramifications in other state court cases, and thanks to this gesture of cowardice, more California cases will be appealed to Federal courts because California has allowed encroachment on Federal law.

Meanwhile, the era of masturbatory politics which was started by Prop 13 has now come full circle: voters got what they wanted, and now they have to pay. What gay man or woman who owns a business would choose to operate in a state where their civil rights are open to amendment, and where the government itself is dangerously weak from decades of fiscal irresponsibility?

One clear way for the state to start digging out is to find a way to get rid of Prop 13. Prop 13 is kinda like a rent-controlled apartment: the rate of increase doesn't come close to market value. If you buy a house in a private sale, the seller can sell at any price--so your parents can sell you a million-dollar house for $200k. Your property taxes will reflect that, and you'll pay one-fifth of what an open-market buyer will. It's grossly unfair, and it's caused all kinds of convoluted fee structures and ad hoc arrangements. Just like Prop 8 does for gays.

There are some people calling for a state constitutional convention. That could be interesting, because in the frenzy to get the state's government back into functioning order, we MIGHT have enough allies to see the rank shite of Prop 8 and all other antigay measures stripped out of the constitution. We MIGHT be able to insert a law like Connecticut's.

Justice Moreno may have saved himself from legal damnation by refusing to join the majority's patently offensive and politically motivated decision. If Prop. 8 is constitutional, then those 18,000 same-sex marriages should've been invalidated. It is that simple.

There's no way the majority's holding that what was - and singificantly still is - a "fundamental right" for 36,000 people is not a fundamental right for others. It is absolute nonsense and motivated purely by politics. They didn't want the fallout of forcing people to divorce against their will. If these cowards actually believed in the ruling they've crafted, they would've stood up for their convictions and voided those marriages.

I don't think many of you are understanding how much of an actual legal victory this was for us. Total victory? No. But the limiting of Prop 8 to the narrowest definition possible? Absolutely.
