It drives me crazy that when Bill Clinton says his viewpoint on gay marriage is “evolving” he probably thinks he is making a lot of people happy.
During a joint appearance with fellow former President George W. Bush at a Toronto forum this weekend, Clinton was asked about gay marriage and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. About the latter, he said that he assumes it will be overturned. About the former, Clinton said that as he gets to know more gay people, his opinion is “evolving” and he thinks relationships should be “up to them [gay people.]“
I’m so glad that such a paragon of marital virtue is coming around on equal rights.
By his choices (during his unevolved state) he made our lives hell. It is why I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Mr. Gore…or in the current cycle Ms. Clinton. Not that we had any hope with Mr. Obama but at least there was a blanker canvas.
William Clinton knows plenty of gay people, many of whom do not want to know him anymore because of his betrayal in 1993 Count David Geffen and Mr. Mixner among them.
