18000 couples in CA legal! Congrats to them. How many in MA, or IA, or CT? Bet not many more. After this ruling, gay families are intact and still alive and well in CA. For everyone else: Do the 18000 still look like you or me? You bet. It might make other new families, even if called something else, easier for mainstream America to accept.

The California Supreme Court decision has guaranteed a sequel to the Prop 8 battle. It has created an untenable situation where 18, 000 couples will be in a state legally that the California Constitution declares as illegal.
In a state where only straight people can be legally married, these 18, 000 couples are not only a legal precedent, they are in effect ‘honorary straights‘ in relation to marriage law.

How to piss-off the H8 group: get hitched in a state where same sex marrage is ok, then return to Calif. Then tell the state that your marrage must be reconized. It May not work but it would piss-off the H8 group!

I'm not happy that blatant discrimination is still the law of my home state

I am happy that those 18000 are still "legally" married.

There's more work to be done and I'm notat all pleased with the court's decision but I'm not going to be angry at those who got married before Prop 8 got passed.

They shouldn't be the focus of our anger.

My wife and I were married June 28 of last year. We're also sad that not-yet-married same-sex couples are being denied the legal RIGHT to marry in our state.

Someday, there WILL be Marriage Equality in all 50 states. Soon, I hope.

Be advised: Supporters of Prop 8 did NOT win! They wanted marriage in California to only be between a man and a woman. Well, it ISN'T! My marriage and 18000+ others prove otherwise. FOREVER will California have same sex couples married. At best, all Prop 8 does is postpone future same sex marriages. Let's remind the voters and supporters of Prop 8 just how ridiculous this argument has become.

Has anyone thought of a petition to recall the six justices that upheld Proposition 8. They obviously were frightened that our enemies would recall them. Why don't we make them scares of us too?

If the right wing christo-fascists pursue another proposition or any other kind of referendum, we should start one of our own....the removal of their tax-exempt status. The Mormons among others are already in violation of their exempt status and the Catholic Church gave the nod to the Knights of Columbus that contributed over $1 million to Prop. H8's success. We should find out which cults donated and promoted its cultists to vote yes and then begin our own campaign to discriminate against them for a change. Who do they think they are? They don't own marriage, at least no civil marriage and why should they have any say on who can and cannot marry, they pay no taxes?

I promise, as one of the 18,000 married couples to be visible, vocal and to continue my efforts to bring true civil rights to the citizens of California, and then the nation. Undaunted. I promise to remember all my lesbian sisters and gay brothers who do not have the right to marry their loved ones and to continue this work on their behalf so that someday they will! Peace.
