Well, it's official. As of today, the California Constitution is just a scrap of paper that guarantees NO rights to anyone if a majority in any election say otherwise.

It's ironic that the photo in this article shows a sign that says "Civil marriage is a civil right".

The thing is, if it is truly a civil right, then California allows it to be voted upon...this is one of the issues at the heart of the decision that's going to be made today. And of course, that vote did not turn out in our favor.

Rather, our argument should be that "Marriage is a HUMAN right".

In any case, neither outcome today is ideal. Either we don't get marriage equality due to the previous majority vote, or we do get it essentially through loopholes (Of course, they aren't loopholes, but rather legal protections...but that is not how the other side will view it).

In the end, today's decision doesn't do much for the effort on either side. This is a war that will be won through understanding and compromise, and everything stated in Mr. Daigle's prayer will be needed to make that happen.

Just another step on a long journey...our prayers are with you, California.

@Steve: How are my childhood desires any less significant than straight people's?? My dream of marriage to a man in a lifelong commitment of unity? My dream of having a family?

One lasting and final thought: "The Pursuit of Happiness" is our right, and can not be refused, or denied too us.

I believe: Our Courts know this, and eventually will have to pass judgement, accordingly.

Steven Reid: see what mdc.philly said.

You are clearly speaking of the Christian God. I might add that your view of The Almighty is quite limited.

Any prayer, no matter whom it may be to, is ever wasted. This was absolutely beautiful.

If all the marriages that occurred while it was legal are invalidated. Then ALL the people that paid for their license should sue for their fees back. The state of California cannot afford to give back all the monies that were charged to get a license. Then sue the all the organizations that initially said that prop H8 wouldn't take away those marriages. Sue the bastards (sorry about the adjective here) for the cost of ALL the beautiful ceremonies that occurred during this time period. That is the ONLY place that people like this get affected and possibly learn. We can at least hope that they will learn.
