Chaz Bono makes first appearance post-transistion announcement

Chaz Bono made his first public appearance last night since announcing his female to male gender transition.
Here’s Chaz and girlfriend Jennifer Elia at 2009 Outfest’s Opening Night Gala of “La Mission” at the Orpheum in Los Angeles.
Chaz is so likeable – and I think it’s great that the transgender community has another public face. The Daily News did a surprisingly warm story about his appearance last night, which is another good sign.

There is a strinking resemblance between: “Illinois woman files discrimination complaint” and Chaz. I’m so proud Chaz is fullfilling her dream.
@jordan luke
I thought the same exact thing!!

His dreams! Jordan…
Standing up (ok, sitting down) for our rights!
Jordan: …Use the correct pronouns.
WOW.
I’m thinking he/she needs a gym membership?
So I followed the link to the Daily News story – and the story was okay. However, the bile, hate filled “comments” were sickening. There are some ignorant people out there.
I wish trannies would stick to their own discrimination and fight for equality.
All they do is make it even more difficult among the average person to see us as equals.
Step: Transphobia doesn’t win you any points. All it indicates is that you’re as much of a bigot as the people who would deny LGB people their rights. You’re no different from the people that say lesbians should stop supporting gay men because we would get our rights faster.
If you cannot consider trans people to be equal to you and worthy of respect, why should you ever expect straight people to consider you equal to them and worthy of respect?
A house divided against itself cannot stand. ’nuff said.
it hasn’t sunk-in yet for me. Not sure it ever will. I hope he is happy with his new life.
and i will sell my penis to him for $10 million dallors, i know Cher is good for the money

What makes you think that he would want to pay that much money for such a tiny version of a penis?
If that’s what makes Chaz happy, good for her!
Since there’s a lot of therapy & surgery involved in the transition, I wonder if her doctors insist she lose weight first? She appears to be morbidly obese/unhealthy.
Re: LGBT…..Can anyone help me (a gay male) understand why we Gay men & Lesbian women are lumped together with Bi-sexual and Transgender persons? I have nothing in common nor do I identify with Bi-sexual’s or Transgenders. I do not dislike them, I just do not identify with them.
Gays & Lesbians should simply be Homosexual or Queer or Gay. We two groups are very clear as to what we like & want sexually.
Bi-sexual’s & Transsexuals are very complicated, perhaps even confused.
I’m happy for Chaz if this is what he wants. But I cannot, for the life of me, tell the difference (in pictures, anyhow) between Chaz the female and Chaz the male: they look identical.
Dear Trace:
Hope you’re not anyone in Illinois’ manager.
After all, everyone’s worth is completely dependent on their conforming to a perfect body image.
After all, it doesn’t matter what else Chaz or Laura Valenziano are capable of, if they’re fat/ugly, then the rest is irrelevent.
By the way, can you change the shape of your nose by having a gym membership?
Eye color?
Hair color?
Height?
Skin color?
Shape of your eyes?
How big your ears are?
Then what makes you think a gym membership can change the shape of a person’s skin?
I’m shocked at the level of ignorance about transgender issues. Of course it’s not the same thing as sexual orientation. We are “lumped together” because we suffer similar ignorance and discrimination from the greater population. Note how lesbians are often said to “want to be men,” or gay men “want to be women.” It’s not true, but many heterosexual gender consonant people don’t know the difference.
That’s unfortunate, but as minority persons ourselves, don’t you think we could work just a little at understanding and excepting other people who are different? Some of these comments are embarrassing.
We respectfully refer to a transgender person by the name and pronoun of the gender they identify with. In this case, Chaz is a he. Not a she, and certainly not a he/she. That is offensive and rude. And one’s appearance doesn’t change overnight because of one’s gender identity. The appearance MAY change if a transgender person decides to take hormone therapy or possibly even (not necessary) have gender reassignment surgery at some point.
To focus on his genitalia is equally ignorant. A man can be a man even if his penis doesn’t look like yours. To deny this discounts tens of thousands of intersex and physically injured men.
Sorry for the rant, but I abhor one minority group dissing another. Those of you who know nothing about transgender issues should devote an hour to a google search on the subject. You’ll be, and we’ll all be, better off for it.
