This is the thing that really gets me. And I keep hearing these BS excuses about how they've not been allowed to be men historially in the mainstream and not have had fathers in their lives. I think some of this violent homophobia comes from this insecurity and uncertainly about not only your sexual orientation but gender identity as well even well into their twenties. And the black church and black media does tacitly support homophobia and even violent homophobia and certainly this unreal, self-destructive macho male role model of black men that is the only role model out there for young black men. So many black men I've known are sensitive but they're just not allowed to be so. They'be got to be these MEN, extremely disconnected from their feminine selves. And homophobia is part of that image. I find this in other communities like the Hispanic community but in the black community it's extreme and extends into black culture in the Carribean and Africa as well.
