Withers: Sexism will not save you
I’ll make this short because the point has been made before and if you don’t get it you are slow. Whenever an article pops up at 365 about a woman who is conservative when it comes to gay rights (Carrie Prejean, Sally Kern, Sarah Palin, etc., etc), folks will type out their furious anger. No biggie there. However, in the missives of moral outrage people feel a need to use the word “bitch.”
Fine. People get carried away. Press send before they think. But then when they get called out on their use of a sexist term (and yes sweetie if you are talking about a woman you are using the language of bigotry), instead of showing shame and apologizing folk double down. “I’m a gay revolutionary returning hate for hate,” “How dare you tell me how to act,” or, my personal favorite, “I adore women and only use the word for those who despise us”—a line of thinking used by an intellectual giant. Meh. Meh. At least have the freaking guts to admit there is not a whit of difference between you and the Rush Limbaughs of the world who routinely use sexist language when describing liberal opponents who happen to be women.
Let’s say intestinal fortitude is difficult for you. What about this? Women, who are no fans of either Prejean, Palin, or Kern, read this site and might find it slightly disturbing for folk to blithely throw out “bitch.” If right now you feel a need to share how your bestest female friend from high school uses the word also, leave now. There is no help for you.
Write whatever messages you need. Call me a coward who doesn’t understand the level of hate out there. Repeat some mush how you are tearing down the walls of oppression for your gay brothers with sexism (which sounds as fatuous as black folk moaning about American hegemony and jumping on the “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” rubbish); this is my last word on the topic. If you call a woman a female dog and get all emotional over gay liberation, your freedom tears are crocodile.

“If you call a woman a female dog and get all emotional over gay liberation, your freedom tears are crocodile.”
I see your point, but technically this is not true. Being oppressed doesn’t make people nice. That doesn’t lessen the fact that they should not be oppressed.
Thank you, James!!!!
I still don’t like either women but I’m not interested in mean name games either. Carrie’s and Sarah’s behaviors and words still don’t set nice with me and it won’t help if I act as nasty and careless like them. I’m better than they are because I can admit when my nastiness has been taking too far and say sorry for it. They can’t seem to say that or anything.
I don’t think this article is totally fair.
I used the b word under the New York article to describe that unholy moose from NOM.
Somebody got upset so I apologized. Big deal.
And the same person who was upset over the b word gave me the thumbs up on sparkle cow.
So there….
Sparkle Cow is still women approved.
Big deal, you say.
The point of part of the article, is that when gays attack women using bigot words like the B word, they demonstrate their hate. You justify it, because these people have the audacity to think in opposition to your beliefs.
You know, like gays, who claim that all supporters of “Normal marriages” are bigoted and hateful.
The gay mobs in California justified their hate and bigotry, by proclaiming their opponents as hateful. But, it was these gay mobs who defaced churched, vandalized cars and buildings, interferred with businesses and attacked little old ladies carrying “Yes on 8″ signs.
It is out of hate that gays wish to embarass other gays who wish to keep their private lives private. It is hate that moves gays to “out” straight men who have closet gay affairs.
But, no, it is like gays who blamed blacks for their Prop 8 defeat, thinking that blacks should act as their sheeps. Or, blacks who jump on the Adam and Steve rubbish, when it was the Genesis of the biblical Adam and Eve creation that led them out of slavery and has all of us here. Adam and Steve would have self genocided, as any intelligent non-biased thinking person can plainly see.
Seriously? An article over the term “bitch” You don’t even know if it is a man or a woman typing it and you are mis labeling sexist. I call friends bitch in a good way whether they be man or woman I always say things like “Peace BITCHES!!! I also say it when I’m annoyed too. The term bitch….Hmm I think the term Cow directed at a woman is more sexist than bitch. Would I call my mother a bitch? Which one? hmmm I’m adopted by lesbians and yeah they are conservadykes but i love them anyways. I have definitely said out of anger the term bitch at both of them at seperate times and umm well it was meant to be offensive. Stop trying to censor people man. Sure it’s not the smartest or kindest expression to use but calling somebody a bitch when they might rather say something far worse especially about those who want us put to death doesn’t make one a sexist. Why not do something more worth while and get those homophobe murders out on the mainstream somehow. Not even Rachel Maddow had the ovaries to bring it up. besides man women have it made. There are more women than men in this country and if you just take a look men are definitely much more up there in the numbers of homeless. If it were just lesbian marriages that were the issue and not all of us they would have passed a long time ago.
Um……Harry hon?
I know WHY you posted here.
You think you’re going to bait me into calling you all sorts of nasty names for heteros.
Sorry, not falling for it.
You can scream about “gay hate” all you want.
YOUR not the one who’s rights are trampled on left and right.
I do belive TROLL is still acceptable.
And a troll is what you are.
Go post your kkk anti gay garbage on the millions of christian web sites that cater to closet cases like you.
“Idiot” just doesn’t have the same power as “bitch” or “bastard.” I do not use them in sexist ways; they just happen to be gender-specific. I see them as the same word, just changed to fit the gender, as it is in other languages.
However, I attempt to be civil with opponents of gay marriage, and only use those words for people I strongly dislike in general, whether they be a homophobe or they hate on my favorite books.
Facebook user, I did not bait you, but some one did.
You said troll, kkk anti gay garbage.
Sorry, hun, when I posted about gay hate, I was specific. You may be a hate monger, but if you where not one of the gay protesters in Califestay prote g
continued…protesters in California, you are excluded. If you peacefully protested and tried to prevent the criminal activities of other gay protesters, then you are excluded.
The KKK does not allow Jews in their hate organization.
Have a Peace-Filled Day,
Harry
Thank you. Words do matter.
i agree with harry to an extent and understand his point. i do not understand how kkk got thrown in there. Fighting anger with anger will not get homosexuals anywhere. It only succedes in making both parties seem angry and creates opportunites for the media to give a extremist’s mask to the movment. If westboro baptist, for example, had a member die, should you protest their funeral? Like my grandpa says “Three rights make a left but two wrongs don’t make a right”. Anger begets anger and fighting fire with fire only makes a bigger blaze.

I think that this article now calls for an extensive examination of the word ‘bitch’ and its many varied connotations and definitions. Obviously the definition of ‘female dog’ is one that has already been addressed. More broadly, this definition is used to denote someone who is or should bend over and take it, denoting the negative aspects of femininity, often in a male. In this sense, Obama is a bitch, because he’s taking it from the left and the right and not allowing anything useful to get done in any aspect of his presidency. I am also a bitch, because, well… I like it that way
Another aspect of the word bitch is a catty, confrontational, often unpleasant person, i.e., one who is bitchy, and who is usually thought to be a woman but does not always have to be. In this case, Palin, Prejan, and so on and so forth are, in fact, bitches. In this case also, I am a bitch. And I like it that way. Because while people tend not to like bitches while they are being bitchy, bitches get shit done.
So now we have reference to the masculine bitch, or one who gets shit done, and the feminine bitch, one who metaphorically or literally bends over and takes it. The act of being a bitch is not necessarily or exclusively a pejorative, negative term, it’s all in the use of the word and the intent behind it. Obviously I don’t think people are referring to Palin as a bitch in a positive way (because ‘bitch’ is often preceded by ’stupid’) however, just because one calls a female a bitch does not necessarily mean they are being sexist. But I might be biased, I love bitches, in all their forms, and identify proudly as one myself. I just love the word. It’s almost as versatile as ‘fuck.’
Peace, love, and bitches, baby ^_^V
Thats true alex, but ill state my point in a less crude sense. “Bitch” like all words are contextual and cultural. Different communities and cultures use different words and percieve them differently. Words are powerful but they are only as powerful as they are percieved and take on the meaning that each individual person attaches to it. For example if i were to say love some would think of romanticism, some of struggle, some of universalism, some in a mythical sense, and some will think of it in a practical sense.
Withered….
Alas you have discovered the “Straw Man” argument…(Expository writing 201).
Good on you! By the way what emotion is your picture aping? Anger, Disgust, I just failed expository writing? Regardless, your article yet again misses the mark.
“(and yes sweetie if you are talking about a woman you are using the language of bigotry)”, quoting you this statement is, in itself, another example of Withered’s sexist language of bigotry towards the gay male, YES YOU ARE A BIGOT! Withered…you hate gay men! you wish you had been a woman…. let’s face it your a prime candidate for gender re-assignment … as you already have no balls.
Just a heads up, straight men will also find you to be just another unfortunate mistake between the sheets.
LOL…. I bet you thought bed sheets…I meant sheets of paper!
