What do you mean by “every” political party? There are only two viable ones. So, it usually becomes a strategic move between the “lesser of two evils” in the United States. The Democrats are demogogue liars who promise everything (and deliver nothing). The Republicans are divisive panderers who cater to extremist elements – religious and otherwise – within society. Pick your poison.

It isn’t like the United Kingdom or Canada, where your vote for a third or fouth party actually matters. The House of Commons is a pretty accurate reflection of where the people stand. You even have secessionist parties represented (the Bloc Quebecois, Scottish National Party, and Sinn Fein). In contrast, America’s “representatives” are all dull clones of each other. If there’s a difference between Dennis Hastert and Nancy Pelosi, I certainly haven’t seen it these last two years. Same policies. Same religion. Same social network. Same demeanor. Different slogans.

Until people understand that the Democrats are no friend of the gay community, this will only continue.

There are good men and women in every political party. To blindly stand behind one party that has continued to lie to the gay folk is simply ignorant.

Just as in California the ugly religious-based homophobia of the black and Hispanic communities is front and center. Go reserach the Democratic politicians in NY who are openly against gay marriage if you doubt me.

Larry, I disagree. If we pull back from gay marriage now, then I think we should focus amending the Civil Rights and the Hate Crimes act to include sexual orienation, and getting DOMA and DADT repealed.

Yeah, we have a lot to do. But, trying to get gays to come together on anything is like trying to herd hamsters. If gay marriage gets the majority of us together on one train, then by god lets not waste the steam.

As far as I’m concerned, now that we have a Democrat in the highest office, my work for them is done.

proving my point that we need to step back from gay marriage at this point and fight for civil unions with full federal rights it would get us the protections we need for now and then work for “marriage” in the near future

You can’t be that simplistic. Not all Democrats support same-sex marriage. There are plenty of religious and social conservative Dems that oppose it. That’s part of the deal going on in NY right now. This requires not just looking at the parties but also individual politicians.

If I lived in NY I’d sure have my state congressperson on the phone reading him/her the riot act! And I’d be following-up with letters and more letters, and emails and more emails and blogging about it wherever I could.
