Months ago when I said if  allowed to participate  in the Republican primary my vote would go to Mike Huckabee, a friend accused me of being on the crack pipe. I couldn’t understand his ire.

There were three perfectly good reasons to vote for the former Arkansas governor: 1) he pardoned Keith Richards, 2) he does have a sense of humor, and 3) if he were the GOP nominee he would have had his clock cleaned on November 4.

Now on the issues, there is nothing I agree with Huckabee on. He deserves props for being a conservative who can talk intelligently about race, but outside of that it’s really hard to take a guy seriously who wants to replace the Constitution with the Bible and doesn’t really get into that whole thing about evolution.

That’s why I yawned when Huckabee was on The View this week and spouted off some ahistorical noise about gay rights history. First he is a Baptist preacher, a conservative one at that, and unless stuff has changed over-night conservative Baptist preachers are clear about gay stuff. We can be in charge of the choir and drive the Sunday school bus but that’s about it. Oh, okay. We can be deacons but that’s it!

Huckabee then jumps all over the  Phylliss Burgess (Ms. Styrofoam  Cross) tale as an example of gays gone crazy. Nary a word about anti-gay violence, but he is the Huckster. Not really fair of me to expect much.
