Withers: Teacher accused of wanting to kill student

This Georgia story is wrong on so many levels I don’t even know where to begin. A substitute math teacher is accused of putting a hit on a student (what is the deal with these subs?). Suspect Randolph Forde got into an argument with one of his charges after he asked him if he were gay. Why the math teacher needed to know this is not clear, but I have my theories (and all of them involve something illegal considering how the student is 16).

Anyway Forde and the student get into an argument over the question. The nosey pedagogue (feeling jilted perhaps?) allegedly goes to another student and says there is someone who needs to be no more. He writes the name of the student on a piece of paper and hands it to the high-school version of Brother Mouzone (that reference only makes sense if you watch The Wire). This being high-school though, a place where there are never any secrets, the word spreads and the kid who “caused” all of this mess finds out.

“He says, ‘Ma, you’re not going to believe this but Mr. Forde offered another student money to kill me,’” said the young boy’s mother Marcia Killebrew.

Forde’s lawyer says it was all a big joke and no one’s name was on any piece of paper.

Sure. Okay. I’ll take that, but I still want to know why he needed to know the kid’s sexuality. Wait a minute. Maybe I don’t.

    • This “teacher” threatened murder. He belongs in jail.

    • “All a big joke.” That’s a solid defense.

Implying that someone should be dead is never a joke. How about this one, he should never be in a position of authority, no joke!

    • …Its just as big a “joke” as wearing white sheet robes, burning a cross in the front yard and having a noose swing from a tree… not a very funny joke now, is it…

    • hey everytone..let’s all grab a noose and take a field trip to Georgia..you know..”as a joke”

    • This story is horrifying. However, we do not need to break down into racist commentary, even being rhetorical, when discussing the situation.

    • this sub. teacher needs to be fired and ban from working with kids, why is he being so “petty”, is it because the kid won’t put up with inappropriate behavior.
Teachers need to understand, your not in the kids life you just teach. If your a sub your a baby sitter. and he wants him dead because he wouldn’t “come out” all over him. shoot this man (sub) before he rapes a teen boy.

    • OMG…how inappropriate for a teacher; even IF he is telling the truth!

    • This teacher needs to be locked away, regardless of why he was enquiring about a student’s sexuality.

    • I can’t say too much about this case because I don’t know the teacher’s reputation in the school (like his personality or how he jokes with students). We don’t even know the sexuality of the kid (and how it factors in this case). If the kid was straight, the kid obviously has a problem with someone thinking he was gay since he reacted so much to it (not to get off topic, but I’m just saying).

Even then, if it ends up just being a joke, this teacher has a LOT of explaining to do! I certainly hope the teacher’s intentions were not so maligned.

    • I guess its a bad shot but to me he just looks dopey and a bit immature with the hint of submerged grin on his face. Horrible, I know, to judge from a picture, but then we have hindsight in this case. I would have really dug into his background and character if this is what he presents himself as in person.

I know, its Georgia. I still have family there, poor slobs. Even with half of corporate america moving there, it is still completely red neck backwoods territory.

I have friends who just love the Atlanta gay scene (sorry line dancing doesn’t cut it for me) and good for them, but the entire culture, the culture of my ancestors, is one of lazy white superiority makeing sure they can remain lazy and keep the blacks down in their place. The rich white folk keep their high end neighborhoods segregated and poverty is so rampant in the minority areas that its amazing kids learn anything. They simply have not learned from our example of inclusion and proper education to pull up all segments of society.

And don’t be fooled by the sweet nice talk. They sound like some of my Aunts. All nice to you in person but stab you in the back.

I know, I sound bitter, don’t I? But I’ve lived the last 40 years trying to shake off the slave owning bigoted past that my family is a part of and I think I have a right to be bitter.

I’ve been back dozens of times and I always come away with the same assessment, so no, it really hasn’t changed, even though people keep telling me Atlanta is now a modern city. Just go a few blocks past the city center and you see what I’m talking about.

    • Gee deeter131. Prejudiced much? What does fried chicken and watermelon mean to this story? I am white, but am becoming extremely pissed that the “white” folks on this website are very prejudiced. First you all, want Obama out of office, now you say something prejudiced like that. I’m ashamed of you deeter131, and I think you need to apologize for stating your prejudiced language.

    • Major problem everyone seems to overlook is the fact that the “teacher” is a product of the same school system. The system has gotten so perverse that it is mass producing people whose code of ethics is “no bodies left behind, bring them with you if you don’t have time to hide them well!”
Kids seem to give the thought of stabbing someone or when to put on a clean pair of drawers about the same amount of consideration…
I totally agree that something drastic needs to be done with this twisted individual, though jail would only make him a better criminal when he was returned to the populous.
Forced organ donation would be providing for the society as a whole… Everything he has two of, take one, take all the fluids, glands and bone marrow he could provide without killing him. Bet it would make many an idiot think twice before even a thought of breaking the law, let alone acting upon it.
Take a look at countries who’s laws are still basically “an eye for an eye,” their jails aren’t bursting at their seems. Hard to steal something with only one hand, convicted rapists never do it twice as they are either emasculated or simply killed. Not like this namby-pamby “justice” we are forced to dole out. When are people going to realize putting trash out of site only ends up with a disgusting pile of trash you must deal with at some point. Human trash simply won’t compost unless it’s chopped up first.
If we continue to warehouse criminals in our countries prison systems it will end up totally bankrupting the country, both economically and physiologically. Return the prison systems to something to fear, not just “3 hots &a cot. There is actually a growing segment of “criminals” whose’ whole record places them in the system again and again simply looking for a place to live off the streets. Truly sad as I know I will be viewed as the villain for saying all this. Bet those of you who seem to think placing people in jail will in some way cause them to have an epiphany, thus returning to society a useful contributing member

    • I still trying to understand a teacher, an adult parents can rely and count on putting a hit on an actual student, or “joking” about putting a hit on a student. Whether or not he was joking I doubt anyone found the “joke” funny. It’s like pretending a airplane was hijacked or screaming “water break” at a marching band practice and it wasn’t close to water break.

  • teachermahn Said: November 18th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
    • As an educator, I am appalled at this man’s behavior. Regardless whether the “hit” was a joke or not, it is inappropriate. It is also inappropriate to ask a student their sexual orientation. This teacher’s personal philosophy on teaching and his person belief concerning ethics and teaching need to be questioned and investigated.
