He lost the Democratic primary, so he ran and won as an independent. That wouldn't be such a big deal, except he'd previously been VP candidate as a Dem, and had run for Presidency as a Dem before losing and throwing his support behind other Dems. I agree with keeping him in the fold--that's the best way to monitor and control his snaky, self-serving ways. He'll never be President, and it's good to keep him reminded that his power will never match either his ambition or his ego.
