James. I think you are underestimating the gay vote, and the enthusiasm of the base, and what drives the base. I think gays are very influential, in their families, friends and associates. Far more than is commonly known. How fired up will the base be in the 2010 midterms? I live in New Jersey, and know for a fact that the base could have cared less whether or not someone who stands for nothing gets back in office.

The lesson for Obama is that if you don't stand for anything, and are not willing to back up words with action and risk over basic basic basic American values, no one is going to help you. Equality is patriotism itself for the base. So the repeals of DADT and DOMA would demonstrate to the base that Obama stands for something, and that will fire them up. The base needs him to take the political risk. The democratic party does not understand this. Everything is a political calculation to a democrat. A fatal flaw.

Yep. It was gay marriage that Corzine from winning a second term. Him losing had nothing to do with over the top property taxes that are squeezing folk in the middle! Marriage equality would have saved him. LOL

I wonder if the result would had been different if Corzine had fulfilled his campaign promise to support gay marriage. A good lesson for the Obama team. You have to fire up your base, or they stay home. And repealing the federal hate laws is so basic, it really should have been done by now.
