I don't think there has been enough pressure put on the government by the queer communities. It takes action and aggression to change policy quickly. Our supporters have been working for years to gain us the few rights that we do have. Where are we getting off thinking that this man is going to change this? Its still a fight to change public opinion. I agree that Obama is going to now be focused solely on 2012. I also agree that he will need to support his promises and hope given to the queer community. Our votes count, and I think we need to become more aggressive- so those votes are noticed. We shouldn't be noticed for our absence however. If we pull out our support and backing of Obama, who hears what we have to say? We need to be noticed for being louder, more upfront, more bold.

I am virulently critical of Obama. I voted for him, and encouraged all my friends and family to vote for him too. But never forget that Obama now works for us. I worked for him and the rest of the democratic party, and now they control THE ENTIRE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS from soup to nuts. I don't have any more work to do -- MY PEOPLE ARE IN.

That may not be true forever. It would be nice if the democratic party controlled everything for years to come. Believing THAT is a belief in fantasy. 2012 election? HELLO!

When I see people saying that we should let the democratically government decide to repeal DADT and DOMA at their leisure, it makes me want to SCREAM. Vets are not dumped on the street at the government's leisure, they are dumped EVERY DAY.

I don't want to hear one more plea for patience. My patience is no longer the issue, government action is the issue. When Obama wants something, he gets it done. TRILLION DOLLAR BAILOUTS, and much more complicated legislation than two simple repeals of unconstitutional law.

My patience has an end. RIGHT NOW.

Fem,

"...who do not care about your silly little fairy tale you have in your head about your first black president. Yay for him, he’s half black."

This would be witty if it were connected to anything I said. Please, o please, point out where I referred to the president's color? When you find that line, let me know. Be well.

@Isaac not even W. Bush didn't sign one peice of anti-gay legislation in his entire 8 years term. Barack Obama signed the Anti-gay DOMA 'executive order' in his first 6 months. It compared gays to incest, pedophilia, and stated not allowing gay marriage is good for the economy. So let the gays jump up and down for this redundant bill acting like he invented the wheel when the first piece of legislation Obama signed was hateful anti-gay legislation.

The writer of this blog is racist. Boohooo still whining about Hillary are you? Awe tough noogies, it's not just WHITE gay Hillary voters who have a problem with the LIAR Obama you racist, it is the entire country so go cry in your soup b/c your attempt at creating division in the gay community isn't working anymore. You can't shut up up with your race baiting anymore, we are fed up and we are NOT going to shut up. Blaming Hillary and all of the WHITE people that you think are "conspiring" against your Messiah is not only not working anymore but it renders bloggers like you and websites who have bloggers like you, irrelevant. Funny how all of those Hillary voters who voted for your Messiah Obama are now suddently "covertly conspiring against Godbama". Please, this is a pathetic whiney article from a pathetic whiney Obot who sounds like he's getting suicidal from the fact that his Messiah is a failure and a Liar.... a Fraud.

Go eat some more Twinkies and whack off to Obama while he has a shred of influence left because before he destroys what's left of this country there are a few Obots like you hanging on.

Signing Judy Shephards bills is an idiotic display of theater on Obama's part. It is a redundant bill that has done nothing for the gay community who is so ignorant and unedcuated they are happy for even the smallest crumb, and it IS a small crumb. They like this bill b/c it makes them "feel good" but does ZERO to prevent hate crimes. He has done nothing but put himself on the TV again because we know BO loooooooooves being on the TV, I don't know why he didn't just get a job being Oprah's sidekick instead of continuing to destroy this country just like W. Bush.

And fyi the educated among us know that Hlllary did not support gay marriage so 365 should really get better researched and more educated bloggers. How ignorant.

The reason we don't bow down and lick Barack's crack like you do is because some of voted knowing it's all bull but we gave him a chance and voted for him but this is not what we signed up for. His infamous line "Gawds in the mix" let me and my friends know exactly what kind of liar hypocrite bigot Butcrack Obama is.

So NO I do not support Barack Obama and I will not be voting for him again. Neither will the Youth, he lost them, and neither will Senior Citizens, he lost them too because he wants to loot Medicare to the tune of 500 billion dollars a year over the next 10 years, do your research, and finally he has lost the Independents who do not care about your silly little fairy tale you have in your head about your first black president. Yay for him, he's half black ... ok we were all happy about that and now we have moved on and are expecting him to be the president. Instead he has expanded this War on Terror to the deadliest deaths we've seen in 8 years.

WE did not sign up for this fraud Obama.

Even the Liberals on NPR aren't buying this "hate" crimes bullcrap. I don't care if a basher "hated" the person he bashed, I just want him punished. This bill is nothing more than grandstanding for Obama and the HRC so they could take credit for the nothingness they have produced for LGBT citizens.

New poll today ... he has the lowest rating of any other president in history at this stage of thier presidency, he gave himself another 130 BILLION to go kill Arabs for a fake war that Dubya started, yesterday also, you hack. Get over yourself and look past your racism. The rest of us are fed up with the kool-aid drinkers like you. Frankly, you are affecting nothing except making nuisances of yourselves because you're racist little anticis aren't working anymore.

I will NOT being voting for Barack Obama again and a whiney little racist like you will not stop me from saying it whenever the hell I feel like it.

"If I had a dime for every comment when someone whined, after just nine months, she was going to stay home in 2012 due to Obama’s inaction I would be sipping morning coffee on beach front property."

I find your use of the term "whined" extremely interesting and indicative of you inherent prejudice here. If someone expresses dissatisfaction with Obama's progress on gay rights issues, they're "whining". It's so much easier to dismiss their perfectly valid viewpoint if you regard their words with such disdain, isn't it?

Rather than accuse you of "whining" about the Obama-bashers, I'll actually take a moment to consider your viewpoint. Yes, you're absolutely right - it is only fair to give Obama and his administration credit when they take a step in the right direction. However, it is also fair for people to say he is taking his sweet time taking those steps. Indeed, at times it feels like he's standing still.

The gay community has endured the Bush years - almost a decade of blatant prejudice, a government more interested in stripping us of our rights, of trampling us into the gutter, than offering us any kind of protection. Obama may not be the President many of us wanted. He may not be the champion of gay rights that we hoped for. However, he is not the vile bigot Bush was and so it is only right that we should hope, pray, and yes, even demand the rights we've been denied for far too long.

Stuff your notion that we should "prod" to get what we want. The gay community has a real opportunity to get real equality here and now - it has a Democrat President who needs the "pink" vote if he wants to retain his seat in four years. It is not only understandable that the gay community should be pressing Obama to deliver the equality it deserves, it is essential they do so. It is essential that they demand the rights they should always have had, and if those rights are not provided it is only appropriate that they deny Obama their vote at the next election. Surely even you can understand that? Right?

Obama has done some good things for the gay community. He has taken some steps in the right direction. However, he has a long way to go before he secures for us the rights we deserve, and it is the right, and indeed responsibility, of every member of the gay community to let him know as much every chance we get.

Unfortunately, I happen to be one of those people who takes a "principled stance" against hate crime laws. As a gay man I want and need no more protection under the law than any straight person. What I want is EQUAL protection under the law, and hate crime legislation does not provide that. Perhaps it shifts the balance of inequality in my favor, but I would rather see politicians focusing their efforts elsewhere, like perhaps, legislation that promotes true equality instead of this hypocritical hate crime bullshit. If Obama really wants to take a stance against hatred, he should stand behind a host of legislative reforms eradicating the inherent hatred, prejudice and inequality that exists in the legal system at present.
