Withers: A gay man is pimping Palin’s book

Like The Godfather’s Vito Corleone it makes no difference to me how a man makes a living (although if you sling drugs, you’ll last longer in the game taking cues from The Wire’s Omar). With that said Jonathan Burnham might need to explain a few things.

As reported by Andrew Sullivan yesterday, Burnham is an out ‘mo and marketer for Harper Collins. A queen working in the world of books? Cool! Hold on though before you start dancing in the streets. Apparently Burnham hired a homophobe to help Sarah Palin write her memoir.

Now the problem isn’t shilling Palin’s tome (stop laughing). But out of all the conservative scribes out there, Burnham couldn’t find someone whose background wasn’t filled with anti-gay noise?  Palin’s co-writer, a Lynn Vincent, was all in with the anti-gay marriage forces in California. Which wouldn’t have been a problem if she didn’t throw out  lies about how po’ oppressed religious folks would lose  free speech rights if two lesbians went to city hall for a piece of paper. And can you really trust anyone who worked with nutty Robert Stacy McCain (no relation to the Arizona senator)?

Don’t know Mr. Burnham and couldn’t pick him out of a line-up; however, this stinks to high heaven. We deserve better.

    • Well, unfortunately some just don’t care about anything but their own pocketbook. Here’s hoping Mr. Burnham enjoys his 30 pieces of silver.

    • Lynn Vincent is a religious zealot over at WORLD magazine. Among other things, she used to run the blog over there (http://online.worldmag.com) and I would regularly get into little word fracases with her. IMHO, she’s a religious radical who is probably the perfect pick to co-author this book. After all, who can make stuff up better than the extreme religious right? In Palin’s world of death panels, seeing Russia from her house, reading ALL newspapers and trying to force your fornicating daughter to get married, who would have been a better pick?

What does Burnham have to do with making the choice of her co-author? I’m not a journalist and don’t claim to have any specific insights, but what’s clear from what I’ve read is that Palin was already in bed with Vincent long before Burnham and this book deal came along. I think it was Palin’s decision all the way and, perhaps, Burnham is just a bystander. But, we all know, daddy’s got to bring home the bacon, right?

    • Ms. Sarah Palin, Lynn Vincent and Mr. Jonathan Burnham really STINK! Oh, and add Ms. Palin’s ‘fiction’ biography to the list.

    • Sounds like a good fit to me… match a crazy to help write for a crazy, no? Kinda like a warning sign on the book.

    • Keep in mind that although he might be “pimping” for Sarah Palin, the way to change bigoted minds is to have them get to know a few of us. If Palin figures in the GOP future, this may well be a good time for her to learn that Gays are people too.
