Conservatives need to come up with better theories, especially when the topic is sexuality. As most of you know the Values Summit happened this past weekend (the attendees went gaga over Ms. Prejean). Michael Schwartz, chief of staff for Sen. Tom Coburn, held a session on the evils of pornography. Here is what he opined:
“All pornography is homosexual pornography,” said Schwartz, repeating what an ex-gay friend told him, “because all pornography turns your sexual drive inwards.”
You read right. According to Schwartz’s ex-gay friend (we all know that queen is at the sex club with his booty in the air….not that there is anything wrong with that) all porn is touched with the homosexuality. But hold on peoples because it gets better. Schwartz is convinced one way to keep 11 year old boys from loving show tunes is by telling them Dad’s Playboy will transform them into sodomites.
“And if you tell an 11-year-old boy about that, do you think he’s going to want to get a copy of ‘Playboy’?” he said. “I’m pretty sure he’ll lose interest. That’s the last thing he wants!”
I hate children, but I know this much: Playboy’s hold on the imaginations of 11 year old boys is tenuous at best. When was that magazine last relevant? Forty years ago?
While I’m ranting, this is problem 423 about minority life. The majority will always point to some goofiness uttered by a tribe member (good morning Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson) to uphold their bigotry. Who better else to quote than some “ex-gay” nitwit for the juicy dirt on gay living?

Playboy is STILL relevant and the writers at Playboy have won Pulitzers …. what have any of you ever won?
The strawman argument works best when it is subtley issued to one’s audience.
Perhaps an English 101 refresher or an night clqass in Expository writing might help.
I just want to make sure I’m following this train of thought. So if he’s right, then every time ANY man masturbates he’s actually having gay sex? Which MEANS that every straight man, or woman, is actually a closeted homosexual pretending to be straight and heterosexually is just a ruse…… Think it through Republicans, think it through….
I’m so happy that there are people like this to make these outrageous claims; it makes our jobs that much easier, and oh what a hilarious history for my children to laugh at!
My friends where all into porn throughout their teen years- we looked at the magazines for god sakes! It was just a difference on where on the page our eyes were guided towards. These same people have grown up to be the most well-adjusted, respectful people I’ve ever met and agree that they made no more of a conscious decision to be straight then I did to be gay.
And I was much the same way as yodafriend- still am in fact; I still marvel at powerful women (Ann Coulter exempt; that is no woman) Our NDP leader, Debbie Novotny,- hell Charlotte Pickles on the Rugrats was my idol! Beyonce, Cyndi Lauper…
Looking back, its a shock that I ever doubted myself!

When he looked at heterosexual porno, he got turned on my seeing the men!
Another closet case attacks us with guilt and stupidity.
If I showed pornography to an 11 yo, I’d expect to be arrested for contributing to the deliquency of a minor. If I admitted it in a public forum, I’d expect to be investigated! Why not this wingnut!
Well, the first thing I remember ever advertising nudity, was some nude lady playing cards. The second was a Playboy at age 9. Is that what made me gay? I don’t agree with Schwartz at all. Since age 3 or 4, I loved dolls. Barbies,Raggedy Ann, Holly Hobie, Bionic Woman, and the female characters in my action figure playing days. I remember telling my mom that I wanted the Bionic Woman doll for christmas. What did I get? The Bionic Man. I remember breaking his leg off and then I threw him in the bushes. That was the last time I saw him. Pornography, although not meant for children’s eyes, is part of our culture, (GAYS & STRAIGHTS). I can think of about a billion children who get on their computers and learn what the naked bodies of adults look like. Some boys love the nude women, but others like myself, would love to see naked men. I don’t think pornography has anything to do with our sexuality. Someone should have asked him what pornography did he look at? Throughout our childhoods, and teenage years we know whom we are attracted to. We do not have to look at anyone’s naked body to know who we really are. Nor do we get advice from friends or family to whom we are attracted.
God did not make everyone in the world heterosexual. He did not intend for everyone to be clones of one another. We are different because that is how we are made. Animals,fish, insects, amphibians, and humans all have such differences in them. It is not evil, devilish, or satanic for us being gay. Until the religious, or right wing, or conservative people learn that, we will always be fighting an uphill battle. So get your armor on people and march on October 10th & 11th. I was going to go,but do not have the $ to travel or stay in a hotel. I will be there in spirit, and will be involved in the state of Florida. MARCH ON PEOPLE, MARCH ON!!
Heh. Whoever uses the uninformed and undeveloped opinions of 10 and 11 year-old boys to make their case is in obvious need of some kind of intervention. These comments were so outrageous, I actually laughed. I know, I know, people actually believe this nonsense and vote accordingly. But I believe in the words of Friedrich Nietzsche: “Not by wrath does one kill but by laughter.” This man’s remarks are absurd, plain and simple. We all, conservatives and liberals alike, should point out the absurdity of such opinions and laugh heartily. Discredit the man! Yeah! Not like he really needs help at this point, though. Even on politico.com, the New Right-Wing Haven, conservatives are commenting on how stupid these remarks were.
