Withers: Donohue wants gay blogger stripped of convention credentials
Catholic League spokesman Bill Donohue is a funny fellow. He is prissy because of two bloggers who have been credentialed by the DNC to cover next week’s Democratic Convention (sidebar: I’m sure you PUMA’s out there are going to do your best to make Denver a media zoo). Donohue is put out by Bitch Ph.D and Towleroad and demands that these two blogs “should be cut immediately from the list of credentialed sites. Neither functions as a responsible media outlet and both offend Catholics, as well as others.”
Like a lot of things that come out of Donohue’s mouth, this moral outrage at the blogs is a bit lame. First off Bitch Ph.D describes herself as a “crappy Catholic”; I’m willing to bet my Billie Holiday albums she is not offended by her own words.
Donohue’s proof against Towleroad is even more flimsy. He does the “that site is gay, gay, gay, gay” trick and then decides to go after Towleroad because some of his commentators “described the pope in a vile and profane way.” As for Andy’s words, what the man actually writes, Donohue has little to say.
Let’s put our cards on the table. We all know what Donohue is doing. He’s setting the groundwork to use the Democratic Party is “anti-Catholic because they did not keep two bloggers who I defined as filled with Catholic hate from covering the convention” memo. Sure it’s a long titled directive but when you are in the pocket of the GOP you follow the orders given to you.

Yep, James - you hit the nail on the head. That is exactly what he is attempting to do. It’s tempting to pander to the sick little man because this will most likely be a closer than (should be) election. Yet, history has shown that once you start pandering to these nut jobs, they start getting carried away. Perhaps now would be a good time for people to start anyalyzing who is working for the Repubican convention and putting them through the same litmus test… oh, that’s right they happily admit to being anti-gay bigots living in a fantasy past. Still, I bet there will be enough delusional Log Cabin Republicans who will find a way to rationalize their support for that twisted party.
ReplyDonohue is a right wing blowhard and bigot. Its ok for his church to offend us for almost two millenia, but not ok when we bash back. The doublestandard and hypocrisy are mindblowing. This is the same man who equates pedophilia as an overwhelminly gay problem and admitted it on a talk show on Air America earlier this year.
ReplyOoh, if I say that I’m deeply offended by myself, can I have your Billie Holiday albums?
ReplyWhat do you expect from the “Cult of Mary” aka teh catholic church - cults do what cults do.
ReplyBitchphd,
No. You are disqualified from the contest!
Sincerely,
James
ReplyAlmost 2,000 years of rape, torture, murder, enslavement, pedophilia, prejudice, extortion and genocide. Whats not to love about the Catholic Church?
ReplyOffending Catholics should garner extra credentials at the convention.
ReplyMove those bloggers to the front row!!
I’m offended the Catholic Church condones their clergy molesting parishioners. Then tries to deny or cover it up when the acts are made public. It’s strange the Church has money to fight perceived evils, but claims they have no money to pay victims of clergy abuse.
ReplyAs a former Catholic… The Catholic church in general (and Donohue in specific) can blow me (but they won’t cause I’m legal now). (Sidenote: can I have the Billie Holiday collection?)
ReplyDonohoe himself should be banned, because he represents the Vatican, which according to the Department of State is a foreign country. I’ve even seen their embassy on Massachusetts Avenue in DC. It’s the one with the protester–his sign is about molestation. Foreign agents must be registered and must disclose their status. (I was once a registered foreign agent, I know what I’m talking about.)
I am offended that an unregistered agent of a foreign country would seek to influence our internal affairs to conform with the policies of a foreign government. He must be banned. I’m not so sure I’m saying this tongue in cheek, either.
I understand the Vatican is the purveyor of a religion, but that’s not relevant.
ReplyWhat ever happened to the Religious Left in this country? Remember the folks who were at the forefront of every civil rights march back in the 60’s? Remember the Jehovah’s Witnesses who went to prison during WWII for their pacifism? The Catholic Workers Movement in the 30’s? The far left Socialism of most Protestants in the 1880’s as typified by Edward Bellamy’s “Looking Backward”? The Group Marriages of John Humphrey Noyes at the Oneida commune. The religiously inspired communes of the 1840’s? In America. Where did that go?
ReplyKen: I love that thought. Pete: That’s what Obama’s trying to reach out too. He’s trying to tap into the “brother’s keeper” school of thought, the Christians who care about the environment, justice ministries and the like, he’s trying to split the religious vote because they are the GOPs strongest faction. Split them between those who say they fallow their God’s word and those that actually do. That also why he won’t openly support marriage equality. He doesn’t want to galvanize that machine.
ReplyChris S, I’m just wondering if you are able to make even one post without tossing out “cutsie” names and degrading individuals?
ReplyI agree with all comments about catholicism. May I add my own, why dou you think the pope flies around the world in an Alitalia 747?Answer, so he can carry back a bellyful of young boys.
