Withers: Manhunt.net chairman resigns from board
Sorry about posting this so late, but the chairman and co-founder of Manhunt.com, Jonathan Crutchley, has been forced to resign from the site’s board. Seems Crutchley’s maximum donation to John McCain’s campaign didn’t go down well with the company’s other founder Larry Basile.
“It should be known that Jonathan Crutchley’s donation to McCain left the entire Board in disbelief,” Basile said in an statement. “I am disappointed that we have lost some customers, and I understand the anger. It is too bad for the web site if we lose customers, but PLEASE never refer to me as a Republican. I consider it an offense.”
Is this enough for people who have been asking for a boycott of Manhunt?

Withers forced out because he supported McCain and donated money to his campaign? How would that be right but someone else getting fire for being gay be wrong?
k
This action will pacify those in our community who put their sexual dithers before their political sense; they can now stay on the site with a minimum of guilt. Yet for those of us who know how the game is played, and I mean no disrespect to Mr. Basile who wants to safeguard his company, this is simply a band-aid. Once the furor has died down, always far too quickly, things will just go back to the way they were…. There is no way to force Crutchley to do the right thing, or to change his mind, other than to use another sex site. Permanently. As for Michael (below) and “forward thinking”: this IS freedom of speech. And the only kind some people understand. Their wallets. For a Gay man to use his money to put our community at long term jeopardy may be his prerogative in our free society, but it’s just as much our right to use our money to say his behavior, his choices are NOT OK. I don’t buy Coors products anymore, and I can say even more certainly that I can live without Manhunt.
Gay and Republican supporting McCain? You support politicians who oppress us and who appoint judges who will do the same for years to come. Also these politicians and judges give audience to groups and individuals who dream about sending us all to prison or just getting rid of us for good. You gay Republicans are supporting this, and there are loads of conservatives in the US who are laughing there butts off all the way to church and the bank.
I don’t get it, and as someone whose life is directly impacted every day by the results of Republican legislation and acitivist judging, this is mind-boggling and heart breaking. It’s enough I have to battle my ultra-conservative parents, let alone members of my own community.
Jeff in Ft. Lauderdale is off-base. Yes, the former chairman is free to donate money to whomever he wants. And, when I become disgusted as a former lifelong Republican at what he’s done, I also have the freedom to withold any further sustenance on my part and urge my fellow gays to do the same. See, we’re both free to do what we want.
Thank God for Out Q on Serrious. They give me a lot of news and I hate that this web site doesn’t allow you to sign up so you can receive it ever day like the Huffington Post. Very lame.
Well, NOW I will boycott Manhunt. It’s really scarey that this kind of political censorship is going on. They gay thought police nazis strike again!
All I can say is, WOW! I am NOT a McCain supporter in any way. I don’t believe in his policies or agendas. However, who are we to tell someone how to vote! Who are we to force someone to “bend to our will” because we like/dislike someone? He could give $2,500.00 to Bozo the Clown and that is his right to do so. There aren’t any, “VOTE for McCain” logos on Manhunt. He was simply doing what his own conscience was telling him. Agree or not, the same consitution and bill of rights we firmly stand for our rights is the same that he has HIS rights. We are an intolerant group of “brothers and sisters” that are petty, disgenuine, and hateful. We discard any that don’t look a certain way, feel a certain way, think a certain way, or behave a certain way. Who else does that sound like? That’s right, the group of people that seek to oppress us, we pattern our behaviors after them and harm one another daily with the same hatred. What hypocrisy and shamefullness. Those of you on your pedistols, come down and join the rest of us, please.
I consider it an insult that they forced someone to resign for his political views. If he made the donation as a private citizen, it is his business. If he made it in the name of the company, that’s another story. I have not heard that it was other than a personal donation.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought all you myopic Republican gaytard types were big proponents of “taking responsibility” and “living with the consequences of one’s own actions”.
Well, Crutchley is having to live with the consequences of pissing off his client base by taking their money and using it to bankroll people who are determined to crush our civil rights. I would think you all would be SO HAPPY over this opportunity for Crutchley to *take responsibility* for his own actions.
Take a good long look at this documentary…. and then decide for yourself if we as Americans, never mind Gay Americans can continue to allow ourselves to be manipulated by those that seem to believe it it’s their right to do so. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1817848131611744924
Geez. Since when did it become mandatory to be a democrat if one is gay? I’m a gay republican and proud of it. While I’m not a big fan of McCain, I prefer his positions on a wide variety of issues to that of Obama and the democrats. A boycott of Manhunt because of the private donation of one of it’s officers is your right, but strikes me as downright childish. I, for one, will not allow the fact that I am gay to be the only deciding factor on whom I vote for.
I wake up in the morning and walk to my car unmolested for the drive to work.
I then work all day with a strongly religious owner and leave work to drive home
Some nights I watch tv alone. Some nights I hang out with neighbors on the steps talking about life or the weather
Some nights I have a 3some.
Maybe I live in a weird city, but my very life is not being threatened by a Republican or Democratic President.
Methinks some of you have adopted truly outrageous and bizarro world views of your own life – running zig zag to your car to avoid some Republican sharpshooter.
The only benefit marriage brings are money saving taxes and monetary benefits. Simple as that. Every legal benefit can be obtained through contractual and power of attorney agreements.
Nothing magical there. Not one human being needs a piece of paper to engage in a monogamous partnership with another human being regardless of sexual identity.
Ah, I see, monogamy the last frontier to destroy so you can engage in random sexual encounters with anyone you want.
Then stop whining about marriage.
Monogamy is what you want? Then stop whining about governmental intrusion and just be monogamous with one person for the rest of your life.
Either way stop being the bigots that you know you are and practice what you want and let it end there. This is America, where I can believe you are stupid and you can’t stop me. God Bless America, land of some stupid ideas.
In my opinion, I think it more has to go with McCain’s anti-LGBT stance, and for me, his anti-union beliefs. (he has vocally expressed his disapproval of the Employee Free Choice Act)…so to have someone that is heavily involved with such a well-known gay website donate money (no doubt from profits from the site), having him put support for McCain, when customers do not approve…I can see why they would cancel accounts over the ordeal. I am starting to ramble, but I just needed to insert my two cents.
All the gay Repubs bitching about loss of freedom of speech on here. Whose speech is being denied here exactly? Clearly if Crutchley wants to claim that the word “liberal” is an insult to him when so much of his customer base ARE liberals and donate money to the highest profile liberal opposition candidate, then said customers are entitled to act according to their consciences, just as the board members of Manhunt are entitled to act according to their consciences as well. Again whose free speech is being denied here? Does Crutchley have some sort of lawful immunity that shields him from the consequences of biting the hands that feed him? That politics! And after three decades of Republicans perfecting the art of pure gutter-trash politics in the name of power, cronyism, graft, and greed your hollow complaints carry about as much weight as Shrub lecturing the world on… well just about anything!
Two more questionable reasons.
1) “When so much of his customer base ARE liberal”
Gay does NOT equal liberal. Sorry. Because you are gay and liberal does not make everyone like you. Sad to have it finally told to you, but that’s the truth.
2) Opposition to legislation may be legitimate even if it seems to have a “gay rights” benefit. Or were you in a cave during the battle over the inclusion of transgender in legislation recently? A battle which pitted gay organizations and politicians against each other. Find a better reason than that.
