Withers: Obama responds swiftly to anti-Obama book
Barack Obama might be enjoying nine days of R&R but he’s still willing to engage in a smack-down if required. This week Jerome R. Corsi’s biogrpahy “Obama Nation” hit the bookstores and already is top dog on the New York Times’ best-seller list for nonfiction hardcovers. The Corsi tome has its Obama accusations all over the map. Wonders if Obama’s admitted drug use when he was young ever ended, claims Obama is both a citizen of Kenya and the United States, and even drags Obama’s mother’s personal life into the spot-light—Corsi says that Stanley Ann Dunham’s marriages to men of color are examples of “her going native.”
Mary Matalin, the chief editor of the book’s publisher, Threshold Editions, calls the book “a piece of scholarship, and a good one at that.” Well team Obama is calling all of this good scholarship into question with a 41 page rebuttal that points to the book’s multiple factual errors and Corsi’s past “intellectual” musings.
It looks like Corsi was asleep when he was reading Obama’s memoir “Dreams from My Father” because he writes things about the book even a dull 9th grader wouldn’t miss. Everything from accusing Obama of not dedicating the book to anyone in his family (the book is dedicated to his family) to the Muslim memo get gutted by Obama in his rebuttal.
But he leaves the best for last, wondering about Corsi’s own past with kookiness. Corsi has called Islam a “Satanic religion,” Bill Clinton “an anti-American communist,” Pope John Paul II senile, and accused President George Bush of wanting to erase boundaries between Canada to create a “North American Union” (this guy is a scholar?).
Looks like Obama paid attention to Jim Malone from Brian de Palma’s “The Untouchables”:
“They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That’s the Chicago way!”

The problem is that Corvi’s book is getting seemingly non-stop coverage on conservative talk radio, on Fox News (Hannity, etc.), and even in the MSM, that its impact will be far more intense and lasting than Obama’s rebuttal. The Obama camp has to get someone on such as Larry King, Jon Stewart, Colbert, Keith Olberman, Meet The Press, etc., to counter the conservative media blitz.
