Withers: Leaked emails show confusion in Clinton camp

Mark Penn

The political chattering class is salivating about  Joshua Greene’s article in next month’s Atlantic Monthly. Based  on tons of  leaked emails and memos, Green paints a Clinton primary team that loved to engage in fisticuffs; however, they used their ammunition on each other not a certain junior senator from Illinois. On March 6, Clinton advisor Bob Barnett wrote an email after another newspaper article had been published describing the bloodletting in Clinton land.

“This makes me sick. This circular firing squad that is occurring is unattractive, unprofessional, unconscionable and unacceptable…My message is simple — STOP IT. Please.”

Right now the most explosive emails were written by pollster Mark Penn, who had to leave the campaign due to his consulting ties; he wanted to hammer Obama’s Americaness or lack thereof.

“All of these articles about his boyhood in Indonesia and his life in Hawaii are geared towards showing his background is diverse, multicultural and putting that in a new light,” Penn wrote. “Save it for 2050. It also exposes a very strong weakness for him – his roots to basic American values and culture are at best limited. I cannot imagine America electing a president during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and values…”

I guess Penn misremembered  Hawaii is a state, unless something has changed, and Obama’s peoples, on his mother’s side, hail from Kansas. Can’t get more American than the land of Dorothy.

A Democrat operative gleefully sipping the xenophobia juice ? If Penn were a Republican, there would be  calls for his hide. But I guess when Democrats do it they are doing it out of love for country, right?

    • Ok, has anyone forgotten that this is useless dribble? Hillary lost who cares what the emails say? How did they get leaked anyways? Who thought it would be a great idea? Heck, Karl Rove and the Whitehouse go to great lengths to make sure no one gets their emails. Get over it and get on with the race…stupid distraction. Good for Hillary for not stooping that low.

    • Why do I think many of these e-mails will be finding their way into McCain ads?
