Withers: Community alert for the Upper East Side

By James Withers, contributing editor, 365Gay Blog 07.03.2009 2:14pm EDT

Joe.My.God (Happy Fourth Joe!) posted a community alert the Anti-Violence Project issued for the the Upper East Side of New York City. Looks like for the past month there have been a number of anti-gay attacks in that part of NYC. These crimes have been committed by the same group of men and there is a composite sketch of one of the culprits. If you know anything, or have been assaulted, please call the police and the AVP.

I hate to go old school on you, but let’s be careful out there.

    • it still amazes me that in the year 2009, in a country that continues to tell the world the USA is a shining example of the land and the free a pillar of modern civilization, allows hate speech spoken from religious leaders. Ignores the rights of it’s own minorities to live freely without violence. Wake up America the world does not believe in the hypocrisy of your elected leaders. HATE = words=violence=death in order to Preach peace & freedom to the world you much practice the rights of freedom for all within your own communities.

    • Happy Forth indicates a desire for some type of happy movement. Did you mean Happy Fourth?

    • Vanndean,

Thanks for the catching that. Lousy error on my part.

      Sincerely,

      James

    • To any gay bashers looking for something to do: Please see me and my mate. He’s 6′7″ and I led a rifle squad in the 101st.

We can entertain you ALL DAY>
      Please pack a lunch!

    • Thank you Kanin!!
I’m old. I’m in a scooter. But I can still stand and walk long enough to bash some heads. I’m 6′5″ 350 of mostly solid stuff and used to lift over 300.
My partner is a big ol 6 foot bear and resembles a linebacker.
It’s amazing that whenever anyone finds out we’re a couple, how NICE they are to us.
      Wonder wonder why….
So, yeah, breeder bad boys…come and get some.
The funny thing is I used to live in Austin and had a little tiny boyfriend at the time and we used to go to the main drag and hunt/bash breeder college boys.
That little guy was a wolverine. There was more than one time I had to hold him out at arms length by the scruff of his neck to pull him off some loud-mouthed college breeder boy to keep him from trashing me too.
He’d walk down the street just being as fey as all get out with me following behind. When a bunch of breeder boys would accost him, mouthing off all those pretty little words and starting to push him around, he’d introduce me as I stepped up behind him.
It was great watching those faces just sort of melt.
I swear a few times, some of them literally wet themselves.
Hey…I was a lot younger and angrier then.
      And it was fun.

    • These reports around the country need to be put in weekly or at least monthly document(s) and forwarded to the MORMON and CATHOLIC (o hell, ALL the Churches) so they can see what being REALLY “picked” on or abused is like and see what their “Christian” beliefs tells them to do.

If I remember correctly after Prop 8 that some of them said that the LGBT community was mean and were angry group of folks. Well I wonder the frick why?

    • In America, we are NOT free and NOT entitled to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” as we have and are continuing to learn in our community.

Change will come as our communities voice(s) continue to become stronger and louder.

Standing up (ok, sitting down) for our rights!

    • I agree with Dieter, and am beginning to think that, based on a conservative estimate, if we make up 10% of the pop, (I think it is more), then for every one of us that they bash, we should bash ten homophobes.

    • If we put warnings like this out every time a woman is attacked there’d be no safe neighborhood to ever walk through. If we did this every time a woman was oppressed, no women would walk in the streets. Maybe this is what men want? I don’t know. It’s always nice to see men looking out for other men.

    • Bashers are punks and cowards. I see nothing wrong with hunting them down and beating them into a more positive social perspective. They usually count on outnumbering their victim. Turn it around on them. You think any of them would actually go to the police? I know a woman in Toronto who’s 5′7″ and weighs maybe 130. She got pissed at her (then-)boyfriend, who was 5′11″ and around 200. She laid him out cold. He went to the police station planning to press charges against her, but backed off the idea when at least one of the cops laughed at him. No, it’s not PC, but if cops would laugh at a dude who got knocked out by his girlfriend, do you really think they’re gonna send out six cruisers to pick up a florist?
