Withers: Perez Hilton gets a beat down

Let’s give Perez Hilton a standing ovation. With Carrie Prejean now on the conservative chicken dinner circuit, Hilton needed another enemy to keep his name in the press. So he quickly dumped his status as spokesperson for gay marriage and now will be the poster boy for anti-gay violence.
Hilton got into an altercation with Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas in Toronto. Hilton, who made a video describing the whole evening, decided to throw an anti-gay epithet at the singer and got smacked by the band’s manager. Last time I checked Polo Molina, the guy accused of the assault, turned himself in to the Toronto police.
Because this is a Hilton story, it is a mess of drama. Hilton says he was with Lady Gaga when all of this happened, but as of now she has not said anything about the early morning fracas. After he was allegedly hit, Hilton made sure his pleas for police assistance were on his Twitter page, like any good media whore professional would. Finally, Hilton’s video describing what happened is the funniest thing I’ve seen since Dave Chappelle walked away from his show. The hysterics. The tears. The emotion. The bromides against violence. Someone give the man an award for this performance art.
If Molina is guilty of hitting the Hilton, the band’s manager needs to be punished. We all can agree on that. Yet, Hilton’s choice to throw out the f word indicates all I need to know. Oh, yeah he’ll go on and on and on about gay rights and such but has no problem with using a gay slur if it means money in his purse.

This comment is directed at those respondents who somehow derive their self-worth or the worth of the gay community from someone else – are you serious? Perez Hilton is not an embarrassment to the LGBT community, he is an embarrassment to HIMSELF. When I see comments such as “it’s people like him that make me feel so embarrassed to be queer.” it is actually people like YOU (CU) that nauseat me – you and your ilk try to mainstream everyone in the gay community…act, talk, be like the straights…lets not celebrate diversity because it makes us different. It is people like you who lament the diversity of gay pride festivals as embarrassing. Who see one loud mouth blogger as a representative of the entire community and actually through your whinning promote this theory….when a straight person does something stupid do we automatically assume they “represent” the entire straight community???…Come on!!! I’ve never heard a straight person, ethnic minority, or anybody else except someone from the gay community claim that the actions of 1 represent us all. It is just plain stupid and I am soooo tired of hearing it. Perez’s actions or any other individual actions do not represent us as a community – the community speaks for itself!
While provincial gays might be afraid or surprised of the F word, in big cities like San Francisco is used normally all the time for clubs or aids prevention.
GLAAD is justifying the gay panic defense. By their logic “He called him a f@g, he deserves to be smacked, and apologize to the emasculated straight victim”.
I don’t care about Perez, he is entertainment refill, amusing or disgusting, but no matter what your feelings are, nobody should be beaten for expressing an opinion.
GLAAD gives awards to shows like south park, which I like but is common they use the word gay every episode but I still watch because I can handle it. But according to GLAAD gays are not allowed to say that word? Sorry but I have REAL issues to be concerned like Prop H8 and DADT and not the unique event in humankind history of a gay saying the f word.
Hilton is a weird dude and doing much damage everywhere he goes. If we were all picking a basketball team, Hilton would be the last person picked. Lord have mercy!
Hilton is everything that is wrong with the internet and America. Go away Perez. You’re as ugly of character as anyone around and that you pretend to “represent” me in any way, shape or form is beyond repugnant. You weren’t “gay bashed”, you got an ass whoopin’ for being the asshole that you are. Don’t you dare denegrate the thousands of innocents who actually suffer beatings and physical and mental abuse simply because of their sexuality by comparing your attention grabing antics with their real life pain. Forget about being a gay man, you’re an embarassment as a person. As my dad taught me, if you’re gonna dish it out, you better learn how to take it. I think you’ve confused cyber space with the real world. In the real world when you start a fight you just my get your ass kicked.
I doubt very many people are supporting his being assaulted and he has pursued legal recourse for that, as he should. What is being noted however, is that being in-your-face provocative will get a strong recation from some people. Yes, being assaulted did cross the line – but that kind of provocation is akin to being taunted, some people will react and that’s a reality he’s going to have to deal with. Better he should grow up and use his celebrity to do some actual good for our community. Right now, he’s really more of an embarassment and the last thing we need is for some hyper-ventialting queen to start unnecessary tension for the sake of his own ego.
Regardless of whether you love or hate this guy, regardless of whether you think he crosses the line when it comes to free speech, regardless of your personal feelings… He didn’t break the law, but he was physically assaulted. If he had been killed, would you still be saying the same thing? I have a hard time believe that Perez grabbed Polo’s arm and forced the guy to sucker punch someone. Perez was wrong to call someone a faggot, but let’s be honest: faggot is currently considered the absolute worst thing you can call a male. That says something about society in itself.
gays have every right to use the f word just a blacks have the right to use the n word. The more i hear people use those words the less power they have. words alone dont give anyone the right to assult anyone. who gives a shit if you like the person or not, it does not give anyone the right to lay a hand on them. This is why we have freedom of speech. This sounds like classic redneck america. This is why most people dont like americans, they are violent and all think the know best. If you want to take that right away from him then take it away from everyone. If he wants to be a soft queen with a big mouth, it is his every right to be.
Now Perez is saying GLAAD owes HIM an apology. Just makes me want to smack him myself. What a pussy.
Remember when gay culture mavens aspired to the rapier wit of Gore Vidal? Or when funk bands aspired to the artistry of Sly Stone?
Now we have a blogger whose known mostly for drawing ejaculate on celebrety photos and a band whose bimbo lead singer is best known for singing about dropping her “London Bridge.”
Perez is an ugly cliche about gay men as dorks and Will-i-am is a wussy thug wanabe who sends his manager to do his dirty work. Why should we care about these worthless bozos?
While violence against someone is never acceptable – this hyper-ventilating queen should know that being intentionally provocative comes with risks. Better he should use his celebrity to do some actual good, or do us all a favor and S.T.F.U.
Perez Hilton consistenly puts out hatred, aggression and negativity on his website. Should we be shocked that this is what he got in return? Also, Perez using the word “Faggot” in the heat of an argument, is using violence in and of itself. Words can be as detrimental as physical violence and Perez should take responsibility for what he contributed that night and for what he contributes on a daily basis. I don’t believe that physical violence is ever justified, but I think both parties should check their respective egos.
Perez is an embarassment to the lgbt community. he doesn’t want to be beaten up for being gay, but its okay to give someone a gay slur that results in violence for being gay? HYPOCRITE
Withers,
I often agree with you, but this time you’re wrong.
You didn’t need to mark out whore.
This concludes my editorial comments.
THANK YOU!! very well said…it’s people like him that make me feel so embarrassed to be queer. so glad that you published this because i really didn’t expect anyone to be as appalled by his obnoxious behavior. it also makes me feel bad about the real victims of heinous hate crimes especially if this turns out to be an exaggeration of something entirely different. it could quite possibly be his personality that got him allegedly hit.
if you ask me that wat he gets. i dont believe that talk’n about others should get u fame, but this is america. i thought he deserved that, so many ppl wanted to hit him, but 1 had the balls to. so my hats off 2 who ever it was
