As gay marriage gets debated in the Empire State, opponents seem unable to gin up a big following. Oh, they hold a rally or two, yell something about Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve (a special plea to my anti gay marriage brothers and sisters: that phrase was exciting about 30 years ago: now it’s tired). Yet they are being out politicized by gay marriage supporters.
“It’s been a little bit of a challenge in New York,” said Peter S. Sprigg, senior fellow for policy studies at the Family Research Council, an advocacy group led by Tony Perkins. “The pro-family network in New York is not as well organized as it is in other states.”
Lack of opposition doesn’t mean that same sex marriage is all but done in New York. According to a Quinnipiac University poll, New Yorkers are divided down the middle when it comes to the marriage rights (those numbers drastically change when race and religion are factored in). And no one really knows how state senators are going to vote after the Assembly gave its OK for gay marriage. Sure state senate leader Malcolm Smith isn’t clear he has the votes, but nothing is set in stone yet.
So a weak opposition and uncertainty on what the future holds? If marriage is your rallying cry this doesn’t mean it’s time to relax. It does mean that same sex marriage advocates have done a great job of laying the ground work. If you are a native New Yorker and care about this topic, it’s time to give assistance to ESPA.

The longer they take the more inclined I am to start a movement to completely take away any “marriage” laws state & federal.
It’s starting to get to the point where that would be true equality.
Since a significant portion of the populace is happily single or loosely coupled.
Why should married people get special tax breaks? Why should married people get special insurance benefits?
Will no one think of the single’s?
I feel so ashamed that today in the 21st century, we as Americans, cannot get along. I could care less, really, what a person is. One thing I cannot stand is ignorance and hatred. God does not teach that–God is all inclusive. So all you hypocrites better wake up and smell religion, and stop with the falseness….we all need to just get along, because in the end, only kindness matters…..love to eacha nd everyone
Trust me, the reason there is no substantial funding for the anti-same sex marriage crowd is because they are certain this bill will fail in the senate. There is no need for significant funding because the NY senate is not quite as progressive.
If there is any hint that the bill will pass, the money will start flowing for the anti-gay crowd.

I find it extremly funny that , people still have such hatred in thir hearts aginst others , more then funny its sad . gay people have the right to mary just like anyone else , and its time that the the government starts working for all its tax payers,which include the lgbt community, we must make our voice heard, its time for the sepparation between church and state to finnaly exist. Is that not the way it was written? or am i wrong ? especially whith the ignorant stance the catholic church takes , they should be ashamed, and focuss on the issues at hand, such as their molesting priests and in my opinon, the closet case new arch bishop of New york.its is a fact that anyone who hates anothers difference, is because they see themselves in that individual, or group.Get real archbishop! and stop promoting hate , because god dont like ugly and you certanly dont have a direct phone line to god . go back to where you came from . you make me ashamed to be catholic . and the same goes for all the other cristain leaders that put out their poison . stop lying about us and well stop telling the truth about you ……..and as for the straight people who are against my opinion , stop lying to yourself , im sure my fellow gays can agree that most of you are cheators , wanting to have your cake and eat it too , many of you have tryed to pick us up and have failed misserably . but i guess thats what marriage among some straight people is . one big sham ….

Luckily, the Mormons don’t have as much as a presence in NY as they did in CA… despite the fact they got their start there way back when. As a lesbian and a NY resident, I’m hoping and praying this gets past so my fiancé and I can finally have the beautiful Central Park wedding we’ve been dreaming of for years.
Make no mistake, the Catholic church, the wealthiest religious cult business with more assets than any other even after the molestation payouts, will use the Knights of Columbus to get funding and other illuminati. That particular cult group contributed $1 million to Prop. 8. Failing that, Obersturmbahnfuehrer Ratzinger will have to auction off some antiques and other objets d’art to fund discrimination, artifacts that should have all been auctioned off to pay for the poverty it helped create in the emerging nations where the lack of condom distribution is contributing to the AIDs pandemic and genocide in emerging nations.
