This will earn me no love, but that’s okay. Mr. G likes me (at least I hope so). I understand why people are out of sorts with Carrie Prejean, Miss California. Her answer about same sex marriage and subsequent poster child status for the National Organization for Marriage grate. I still don’t get why anyone cares about what comes out of her mouth, but to this day I’m still unsure why Madonna is famous. I humbly accept my minority status on this topic (and the Madonna thing too).
Yet the whole Prejean “racy” photos saga leaves me befuddled. Sure if you are a fundie throwing out the line about “protecting marriage” from those nasty gays, it makes sense to be disappointed at little Miss Prejean. You loved her pluck, vision, and strength against that ruthless gay mafia. Wanted your daughters to be like her (possibly with a few more books under their belts), and your sons to marry her. Then she goes out and ruins the myth with those “nasty” pictures. Makes a person with morals clutch her pearls and wonder if anything is true and pure.
So fundie anger adds up. Anyone else getting bent out of shape is beyond me. Last August we covered the hullabaloo about two University of Nebraska wrestlers who posed for Fratmentv.com. Both guys were booted off the team and most of the people leaving comments here took the school to task for making it such a big deal. A fair point I thought, but if it applies to the wrestlers what about Prejean? Could the difference be because they were cute and didn’t say anything controversial?
I’m not in the mood to defend her this morning but I will say this. You want to dog Prejean out for her views on gay marriage, have at it. But getting funky because of photos is a weak and tired game, especially if you weren’t doing the same for former Cornhusker athletes.
PS: unless it comes out that Prejean is the illegitimate love child of Billie Holiday and Dom DeLuise (RIP brother) you will not be subjected to my yammering about her anymore. This is a good time for my religious readers to hit their knees and thank their Maker.
I don’t know.. Methinks the lady doth protest too much. Yes, she’ll probably lose her crown, but she didn’t win the big prize so big deal. If these photos hadn’t popped up, nobody would even remember her name in a month or two. She’s milking these photos for all they’re worth. The best way to have Ms. Prejean go away isn’t to rant and carry on about her views and her hypocracy. It’s to just ignore her.

Like most of you, I’d say I reserve the right to call this wench out on the conflict between her words and her actions. Let’s compare Carrie Prejean and Donny Osmond. Donny Osmond is opposed to marriage equality, but he also doesn’t engage in behavior at odds with his faith. Carrie Prejean makes a mockery of traditional values because she acts like it’s OK do pick and choose, then run back to hide behind the pretext of “traditional values.” She’s a fraud living down to an increasing number of white trash sereotypes, and I have no qualms taking the opportunity to call her out for it. She wants to come out and say those pix showed bad judgement? I wouldn’t have anything negative to say about it because her actions would be in accord with her stated faith. Meanwhile, if she keeps acting like a stripper from the trailer park, she has no right to expect to be treated like a Sunday-school teacher.
Like most here, I could give a hoot about hers, or anyone else’s naked picture. Nor am I really interested in her personal opinion on gay marriage, a bigot is a bigot is a bigot and most likely based on ignorance and the intolerance and lies she has been fed in the name of “religion”… She’ll probably will lose her crown and rightly so, she broke the rules, but in this day and age the pictures probably would have come out anyway. Everyone else’s do…Ask Michael Phelps.
What I am enjoying in her 15 minutes of infamy is her experiencing EXACTLY what it feels like to be prejudices against. Perhaps for the first time in her pretty, blonde, busty, picture perfect, Orange County “slightly better than thou existence, the shoe is on the other foot and she can experience what we as a community go through every day: Personal attacks, discrimination, insults shouted from passing cars, your life and loves and all you care about belittled and dragged through the mud for the entertainment of others who know you not at all. NOW her bible may come into good use. Perhaps she without sin can still cast the first stone… or she can learn to turn the other cheek.

I have to disagree. Marriage equality is a very important issue to many gay couples and families. Not that long ago, interracial marriage was a huge issue in this country.
Let’s assume some fool in 1964 had asked a Miss USA contestant about her thoughts on interracial marriage. So… the contestant responds politely and says “that she has always been taught that interracial marriage was against God’s plan. The reason God separated the continents by the seas was to keep the races separate and pure.” A few days later, She appears on television ads and news shows with George Wallace, another born again Christian, and politely speaks out (as a good Christian) against integration and interracial marriage. Would there have been outrage? Of course.
Now… how long do you think she would have kept her crown? Would anyone be bent out of shape? Of course… and justifiably so.
She makes a fool of herself – she’s no one’s victim – just reaping that which she has sown.
I hope California repo’s her rack. They paid for it. Just a question here. Is it okay for a Preist to have penis enlargement?
She is howling mad that those pictures came out but I’ll betcha she ran to the bank to cash the check. She was also only 17 and I think that is an issue. Her parents raised her properly? Isn’t that her claim as to her beliefs? Did they drive her to the photographer and watch her writhe around in her lace panties? I know they watched her prance around in a bikini with her rubber t*ts bouncing around. What a hysterically funny thing this is.
It’s too bad. She’s a very pretty girl and would probably have made it as a model. You know where all the gay hairdressers, make-up artists, photographers, and fashion designers work. What is she going to do now? Model Nun gear? Show me a picture of her with a pie in her face. You know it’s coming. I wish I could throw it.
