I suppose there is merit to this articles' high road approach. What writing or blogging doesn't do is give a verbal tone to the words used!
One can really influence how a word is interpreted by the tone of voice.
Don't you ever underestimate the power of thought,..... as far as the menstruator goes....that is one damaged piece of goods. Her baggage is heavy and profuse..... her anger at men is for the mental health profession to address.... unfortunately the mentally unstable are able to publish comments along with the rest of us. Menstruator must at some point take responsibility for who and how she is in this world... chances are her primary care giver as a child was a woman.... so I would assume that is something she must face up to she is the product of a woman. Men are not the villians most women have painted them to be. Men are nuturing protective providers who will give their lives for those they love.

Sarrellec

"Sorry, dear, but the old “I can say anything I want to anyone but they better not say anything back to me if they don’t agree” thing went out the window a looooong time ago."

And by the way, my post never said that. But I guess it's hard for a racist to keep up.

"I deprive these people of my presence."

Good for you. Hope you enjoy your Klan rallies and dinner with David Duke.

Sorry, dear, but the old "I can say anything I want to anyone but they better not say anything back to me if they don't agree" thing went out the window a looooong time ago.
Ms. Prejean voiced her opinion of us and Ms. Hilton voiced his opinion of her in response.
That's the way it goes.
If you want silent acceptance and admiration of your singular point of view, get a dog.
Yes. I was a racist before Prop 8. I am a racist now. I will be a racist tomorrow.
Upon what do I base my racism?
Daily experience. I read the newspaper. I have the internet.
Let's see what modern group of people recently was chopping the arms off of children?
Scandanavians?
Polish?
Britons?
No. It was black africans.
Who was tearing the taint out of babies so they could rape them in order to cure AIDS?
Oh yes...that was the Italians!!
No. It was, again, black africans.
Do I think the black person walking toward me on the street in the USA wants to tear out my taint and rape me to cure his AIDS?
No.
But, if he's wearing his pants around his knees and his hat is on backwards and he's walking like there's something wrong with his hips and he's glaring at me from the moment we make eye contact...Well, lessee, if I saw a rattle snake on the ground that I was walking toward and it was rattling, I would have the same reaction.
Don't get me wrong. If there is a white guy dressed like that, and acting like that, I will have the same reaction.
Why?
Because that white person has adopted the STEREOTYPICAL SOCIAL ACTIONS of a group of people that have self-identified as dangerous; probably carrying a weapon; and is more likely to want to mug/rob me than a red-headed white kid wearing his jeans where they belong and putting one foot in front of the other as if he's just trying to get somewhere.
And who's fault is this?
Is it my fault? Did I TELL any of these people to dress this way to identify as a "gangsta" who I've seen on TV carjacking people; carrying weapons and trying to kill undercover drug cops?
Yes. I know that white suburban kids that don't dress like gangstas ALSO take just as many drugs. And when I don't cross the street to get away from one of these camouflaged thugs, I may get mine someday.
That's a chance I'm more willing to take DUE TO MY EVERYDAY EXPERIENCES OF THE LAST 52 YEARS, than taking the chance that that negro gangsta-acting thug is an eagle scout and means me nor anyone else any harm.
And, yes, dear: Quite a few gay men lisp. Quite a few gay men have feminine secondary characteristics which some people find disturbing.
But, from all those days of my experience, THAT particular group of people has shown to be less dangerous/virtually harmless to my person.
As long as we fail to recognize the legitimacy of the SCIENCES of sociology and anthropology, we all--people in general--are doomed to continue their delusional concept of reality and the violence and misunderstanding will continue.
Face it. World-wide: The darker the skin the more violent the culture.
You can wince at the concept. You can be unhappy that all people are NOT the same. But you cannot deny centuries of history nor current events.
What do I DO about my viewpoint?
Nothing.
I deprive these people of my presence.
That's all.
Until they SAY something I do not agree with. Until they attempt to VOTE me into subservience.
Then you want me to just stand by and be silent?
That, withers-me-lad, is simply not going to happen.
You talk. You vote. I'll talk back and I'll vote back.
That's the way it works.

Thank you James! On my refrigerator is a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness,
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate,
only love can do that."
If we can turn the conversation to love instead of hate, we will prevail!

I agree with James. I would just add that our community has other isms too. I've seen ageism firsthand, especially among gay men - "older" guys being told they're not welcome to participate on chat sites, or being completely ignored in clubs - and only among gay men is 40 or even 30 considered old.

On news blogs, there's a certain amount of prejudice on the basis of religion. Catholics, mainline Protestants, and Jewish people are actually more likely than others to support the acceptance of lesbians and gay men, accordingly to a very-large-sample Pew Center study released about a month ago. Religious opposition to LGBT rights springs mainly from older evangelicals, not from all Christians or all people of faith.

If some homohater pisses me off, I tell them off...but it doesn't occur to me to use racial slurs. I guess it's just not in my vocabulary.

But, I did have to stop myself from calling Andrew Sullivan a "dick" today. Not because it's sexist, though I guess it probably is in a way. I stopped and thought it just wasn't cool to call another gay names...even when he pisses me off.
