Withers: Marion Barry is a liar

Dear LOGO bosses: you need to do away with the anti-cursing rule because right now there are a few choice words that need to be said about Marion Barry, The former Washington D.C. mayor attended an anti gay marriage rally to announce that Adam and Steve nuptials are immoral. Okay. Fine. Get in line Mr. Barry. Heck, you can join some folk in my family who spout similar noise. Like Barry those same kin have interesting extracurricular lives, but I digress.

However, on April 7 Barry, who is a member of the District’s City Council (don’t even get me started on that), was a co-introducer of legislation that would permit the District to recognize same sex marriages from other states and counties. He wasn’t there when the vote was taken (health problems), but his John Hancock was on the document. When reminded of this, the Barry said:

“I didn’t sign anything.”

Hold on because the [redacted] mess gets even [redacted] better. Approximately a year ago during a campaign (!), Barry told the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, a D.C. gay political group,  he supported marriage equality.

We are all adults and I understand if a pol senses a shift in the political winds (morning Sen. Arlen Specter), but Barry plays us all for fools because he thinks no one will remember his past words. Any politician who thinks voters are saps needs to be shown the door at the next election. But this is Barry we are talking about. Throughout his career he has shown no shame and I’m sure will turn this into an example of his  “victimhood”  and a plea to stay on the public dole.

    • You will not only lose the Gay Vote, you will lose the respect of so many people, because of your switching back and forth on your word, switching more that a ___.

    • I honestly did not think ghat Marion Barry was still in politics.

Why is it surprising to anyone that a politician panders for votes. Honestly, I don’t think that such actions are exclusive to one race or another.

    • I’m confused. I live in Nevada, and back in the late 1980’s I knew all about Marion Barry, and his drug cartel while Mayor, and the many deaths in Washington DC connected to this man. So why is it a surprise that someone now sees him as a liar. I saw that out in the hot, Nevada Desert 20 years ago.

    • Mr. Barry may be described without need of expletives as “the four-time married ex-con, tax-evading crack addict”.

    • Ah yes. The racist retort! Jeesh. That is so tired, but I guess it should have been expected. by James

In this case it is obligatory! With a Big Capitol W and lots of loud and shrill eeeeeees.

The man, and, “palees”, I use the term relucatnatly, is now and always has been a cheap, self-agrandizing, oportunistic, lieing, cheating, huckster. Why express dismay in his turn-of-face behavior now? Like the proverbiale pit-viper who promised not to bite if he got picked up, and then bit his beafactor — the GSDC knew what Barry was when they hooked up with him. Beware who you pick for friends in this fight.

    • In all fairness he probably can’t remember what he did or said due to all of the drugs he does. I bet someone has to check him to be sure he has shoes when he leaves the house. Can you say FRIED?

    • Is Marion still hitting the pipe?

    • Sarrellec, as a black gay man when you call someone a negro is very offensive! that makes you no better than Marion Barry. We are fighting for our rights and freedom please dont bring racism into this…or you will make our argument for rights suffer!

    • Dude, after living in D.C., I can assure you that Barry’s district is not about to show him any door. They think he’s great. The homophobia in the black community is like a thick, brick wall. Good luck breaking it down.
      We are their “Jews.”

    • I guess they were able to easily determine who the #1 political opportunist in D.C. was.

    • It’s news, interesting, and fun when a well known public figure is reduced to a hypocrite. He did it to himself when he took the high moral ground.

    • Sarrellec: And people worry about what some people wear/don’t wear in Pride Parades as being a bad reflection on the LBGT community. Comments like yours tell me we are no better than our foes.

    • Shh, racial epithets are inappropriate, don’t go there. On the other hand, going HERE, i.e., he’s a lying cheating immoral ass who should be booted out of office or at least given a healthy dose of reality (if we haven’t already used it all up trying to battle the republicans) because he’s obviously lost touch with that lovely little thing called the truth. At least, more so than is usual for politicians.

    • Um…we care what a drug addicted neeegro who believes in an invisible friend thinks?
      I don’t.
