george, you are wrong. I really don't think that most politicians (and specifically our President)could be any more ambivalent towards the gay community. The fact that Warren comes to the White House is simply proof that Obama really does not believe in equality. (But then we already knew that.)

There's an old saying, "The Lord works in mysterious ways". Besides do these people that follow Warren and his merry band, ever think that they can't trick or fool God. Since we are all part of Creation, don't you think we don't all deserve the same opportunities? If marriage is such a Christian institution why do we allow athiests to marry? Why to we allow murderers to marry? Why do we allow bisexuals to marry?

"his church has no influence on me"

On that you are absolutely, undeniably, categorically WRONG, Trace. You may wish that were the case, but when the White HOuse invites him and his ilk to sit at the table and theirs are the only voices heard on social issues touching ALL gay lives, then his "church" most assuredly DOES have an influence on you, and your life. And trust me, it won't be for the better when their mantra is that your relationships are the equivalent of incest, pedophilia and polygamy.

ABSTRACT: In ancient times, homosexuality had a hallowed relationship to democracy and military valor, even though modern military officials tend to find this improbable or even unbelievable. Many persons who might now be considered "gay" played prominent roles in the military, and some observers of the times argued that gay men would make ideal soldiers because they would wish to behave admirably while those they loved were present. In 378 B. C., the Theban leader Gorgidas created a company of 300 men, known as the "sacred band" of Thebes, composed of pairs of lovers; according to Plutarch. The troop played a crucial role in many military engagements and was never beaten until the battle of Chaeronea in 338

drewski, all I'm saying is that I'm not really concerned about what Rick Warren has to say. He's not my pastor and his church has no influence on me.

As I see it, he's about on the same level of support as our President is. The difference is that Obama (and other politicians) have more of a direct effect on each of our lives. Yes, Warren has a congregation of thousands of people. But his congregation can come to their own decision.

And yes, I actually took a vacation day on Monday. Ahhhh! We had some fierce storms down here yesterday. The cave seems to be ok though.

@Trace--C'mon now. There's no on-point denial. Warren said what he said. There's no reading into it--aside from what can be read in re: references to incest, pedophilia and polygamy. You can't see that? Don't you have a three-day weekend coming up?

I want that [jerk] to show me a marriage license from 5,000 years ago!

I have read(dont necessarily believe everything I read, ie. the bible) that there was a time in history where the catholic church gave "blessings" to monks that were "pairing off". I have to find that book.

We also KNOW FOR FACT in history the Greeks and Romans (mostly soldiers) were encouraged to take on "partners" of the same sex...

So what the frickadee frack the F*ckers think? Gay people have been around just as long as straight people.... and since we are ALL female at a point in gestation cycle, before the "Y" chrome is introduced, we were all probably female cells that EVOLVED into "men" as well as primary females. (if that doesn't make sense, try a biology lesson.)

Anyhow, stupid tard like Warren and many others think they can find that in the bible... I can find a snowball in "hell" before they ever get it. sad. :(

5,000 year definition? Why do they keep saying these crazy numbers...that keep getting bigger. 5,000 years ago the definition was one man and many women and the women were property. Yeah...I bet he'd like that definition.

Trace "he compared gay marriage to incest and pedophilia." It's right in the post. His quote is right in the post and he's saying he doesn't believe what he said.

"Rick Warren: But the issue to me is, I’m not opposed to that as much as I’m opposed to the redefinition of a 5,000-year definition of marriage. I’m opposed to having a brother and sister be together and call that marriage. I’m opposed to an older guy marrying a child and calling that a marriage. I’m opposed to one guy having multiple wives and calling that marriage.

Steven Waldman: Do you think, though, that they are equivalent to having gays getting married?

Rick Warren: Oh I do. "
