Withers: UNC takes the prize

I know the majority of you could care less and want to read something newsy and gay. Well in my life gaysey news takes second to a few things: jazz, Charles Johnson, the New York Mets, cherry pie, and basketball. Last night UNC took Michigan State to the woodshed, beating them 89 to 72.
As the story went a Spartan win was to make up for a Michigan economy on the skids. That is one of the reasons I hate sports writers. They take a game that big children play and infuse it with meaning. When Jackie Robinson came to the plate in 1947, that had significance beyond the box score. And when that first out player sinks a 3-pointer, that will count for something off the court. Excluding those exceptions games are just that. But to hear the sports news world, a Michigan State win would cut the state’s unemployment in half and bring GM back to the top. Tom Izzo’s team is very good, but they are not wizards.
The Tar Heels, thankfully, didn’t let the miracle story get in their way.
“If you would tell me that if Michigan State wins, it’s gonna satisfy the nation’s economy, then I’d say, ‘Hell, let’s stay poor for a little while longer,”’ said UNC coach Roy Williams.
Sorry to any Spartan fans ( hey Chitown Kev: do you want to take back that prediction?), and don’t worry. There will be no gloating from me. Well at least not publicly. TAR HEELS BABY! Okay. I’m done.
PS: Happy birthday Billie Holiday.
PSS: University of Connecticut goes for an unbeaten season tonight. This game could be over in the first 2 minutes.

Well Withers, I look at it like this.
If the Izzos had won then Lord knows what would have happened to downtown detroit (reference the ‘84 World Series)
Now I can get back to hating the thug Spartans like a good Wolverine fan is supposed to.
Congrats to the ‘Heels. That was a beat-down.
Yeah, Menstruator, that is wrong. We are talking about stereotypes. And the fact that sometimes that they are used to discriminate in our community. And of course, you bring up the fact that we gay men don’t support women’s basketball. And of course lesbians do. Is that you supposition? Once again, if anybody steps out of the box, one of the Gay police steps up and criticizes.
BTW, I watched the NCAAW Championship. The UCONN Women in my opinion are one of the greatest if not the greatest college basketball teams in history, male or female.
Wow. Women’s sports was actually mentioned in under 20 words. Thanks. I feel so special. Women should feel really happy that mary ball was mentioned. After all we are second rate citizens and completely raped and terrorize world wide.
Humm seems someone else wants to use my name for themselves.
Gosh… warm sweet cherry pie.At Thanksgiveing.Oh but I like cherry lime penis cheesecake more.Yes it exists.Caremel fudge brownies, with cut sweet cherryies on top.
Sports……..there manly enough by there own flamboyant manly acting to be gay enough.Gez someone obviously never went to a few games.
Thanks for the warning James. Since I only come on to a gay news site, for, GAY news… I’ll take this as an editorial lapse on Jennifer’s part.
Not a fan of them.. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE TERPS!!
Tiger,
But the pie has to be warm for that work. Not steaming hot. Toasty will do just fine!
Sincerely,
James
Hello people…. We are a part of the real world as well… And need to keep up on all news because as humans we need to be a breast of all things…. I’m so tired of gay people complaining on here whenever a story isn’t directly gay….
Chris…
Not to mention that this is a blog… Within reason our authur here has a lot of freedom to write what he wishes. I am not fond of cherry pie and I don’t find it newsworthy… but there is at times something interesting written from this authur. So read if u wish… don’t read… comment… don’t comment… freedom!
Chris,
Sorry to disppoint ya, but if UNC wins a championship I’m writing about it.
Sincerely,
James
Ummmmmm, well this IS a GAY NEWS WEBSITE isn’t it? So, YEAH, we DO want to read about GAY NEWS – not your personal views on sports! Why the HELL Is this on here anyway? Is 365gay.com so deperate for filler that the “James Withers” column on anything he wants gets a spot? You state “Well, in my life…” – who the hell cares about “..in your life…” ? If you don’t have something to report on gay news, then you shouldn’t be writing anything.
I’m a gay sports fan who ranks basketball high up in the interest list. (Baseball is more about the great facial hair and tight uniforms…WOOF.)
…but I’m more of a women’s bball fan. Go UCONN!
PS. A big slice of fresh-baked cherry pie with a scoop of vanilla trumps a lot of things in my book James
I hear you Frankly. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked if I was sure I am gay simply because I don’t fit into the usual gay stereotype, I could bail out another incompetently run mortgage bank.
I’m not a huge basketball fan (congrats tho James) or a sports fan in general unless we are talking Miami Hurricanes or UFC and other mixed martial arts fighting, but I certainly do enjoy fishing and camping (I mean in the middle of nowhere, not some gay campground). I am also quite competent with firearms and can track, kill and butcher wild game, if needed. I prefer Ozzy and Led Zep to showtunes and would rather smash my fingers with a hammer than go shopping, but yes, I am still gay. I often tell people I failed those sections of the gay exam, but I did great on my oral.
Stereotypes, while some may contain a germ of truth, are usually for the benefit of those incapable or unwilling to think for themselves. Sadly, we are the ones that almost never shown on TV or in other media as ones like me are too boring, not nearly flamboyant enough (no offense to my flaming brothers, rock on).
I am with you buddy boy. Except for one thing.
I follow NFL, go fishing, watch college basketball and I am gay.
I hate when people assume that we are monolithic. That we are all techno listening, popper sniffing party boys. Much like Tarzan, I was raised by people different from me. He by the Apes. Me by the straights. And Tarzan loved many of his adopted families life, culture, and behaviors. In fact, he resented some human ideals. No, I don’t hate my gay brethren and sisterhood for anything. But I don’t understand why I have to reject everything about my birth life. Like when my grandfather took me fishing. Or when I was taken the ACC All Star game and met MJ. Or Sundays with my brothers watching Football.
I love being gay. And gay means to me watching Football, going fishing, and cheering on the Tarheels to victory. All of it. With my boyfriend beside me.
So, I don’t believe a majority of us could care less. I don’t.
Therefore:
HEELS ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!
