Worms have a useful role to fulfill in the ecosystem. It isn't clear, however, that Monserrate does. We should be going for the economic jugular in this. IRS law forbids churches with tax exempt status to endorse or speak against a political candidate. Revered Ricardo Reyes spoke out in favor of Monserrate, saying at a Monserrate rally "I have seen a whole generation of children sunk down by the gay community." We should immediately have clarity on whether any of Reyes's many religious organizations enjoy tax exempt status. The question should be an open book with total transparency, right now. And, if Reyes does in any way benefit from tax exempt status, that status must be immediately revoked.

How sad that the anti-gay church people are willing to back someone with major issues just because they hate us so much.
