Monday Watercooler: McCain’s love of pretzels to Ashley’s missing brain cells

  • All you couples better get to D.C. Want to make your mate an honest woman (or man) and be part of marriage equality history? Then grab a marriage ring and get to Washington, D.C. On March 20 up to 400 couples will be exchanging vows and tying the knot. If you participate, let us know. We’ll put up your pictures.

  • Is it wrong to want smart bigots? Enough has been said about “Beverly Hills” beauty queen Lauren Ashley, but if she must quote Leviticus it’s a good idea to  know chapter and verse. Especially when talking to a reporter (loves her look of befuddlement when asked if gays are okay if they accept Christ). Can’t shake the feeling Miss Thing is trolling for attention.

  • What will he do now? Remember a few months back when the White House did its best to get rid of New York Gov. David Paterson? Bet you 50 bucks the disgraced governor wishes Team Obama tried harder to get him an ambassadorship. Paterson might be lousy at his gig, but he is top notch when it comes to marriage stuff. Don’t expect the same from the next governor.

  • If Lincoln wanted to free blacks, he should have left slavery alone and outlawed abortion. Dear Republicans: maybe it’s time to give up any dreams of outreach to black folk. As a group you are tone deaf when it comes to race matters. Exhibit A:  Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican, opined blacks are worse off today as compared to slavery times.  The reason? Legal abortion. “And yet today, half of all black children are aborted. Half of all black children are aborted. Far more black children, far more of the African-American community is being devastated by the policies of today, than were being devastated by the policies of slavery.” Wacky has left the building.

  • Stop asking McCain about Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The Arizona senator prefers intellectual pretzels instead of allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve openly. He says he will only support lifting the ban if a comprehensive study says so. Does he mean something like the one done by Air Force Colonel Om Prakash?

  • Saying no. Hundreds marched in Austin in support of two gay men who were attacked, last week, in an apparent hate crime.

  • Chile. Hopefully our Chilean readers are safe and sound. If there is anything we can do, please ask. Let’s keep our wallets open people. Doctors Without Borders is a good organization to give at times like this.

  • HRC head says DADT is going down this year. I’ve taken a few shots for suggesting Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is on its last legs, but Joe Solmonese is making a bolder prediction. He promised, at this weekend’s HRC Carolinas Gala, the policy will be kaput by the end of the year. Does he know something we don’t? Has he gotten a promise from the White House?

  • We are asking. Remember when Maggie Gallagher said there were out gay people working for the National Organization of Marriage? We put in an email  to NOM requesting an interview with these folk. Haven’t heard anything yet, but we’ll let you know if we do.

  • Canadian hockey gold. Congrats to our northern neighbors for their hockey wins (men and women). Well played ladies and gentlemen. Well played.

  • Just because. Who doesn’t need a little beefcake to start the week? I hear Jesus Luz is dating a famous singer from the 80s. I thought Sade was married.

    • I feel like some people keep forgetting that most of the religious and conservative right want us dead. gays don’t deserve to live seems to be the unspoken agreement amongst republicans and evangelicals.

    • I propose a mourners parade. We are always so flashy and bright and rainbow and that if anything is more distracting. We don’t need to get naked in the streets to get our point across. Has anybody heard the song black parade? why not be our own saviors of the broken the beaten and the damned? Let’s all dress in black straight gay lesbian bi whatever and everybody knows that black is slimming and I know most of us have some kind of outfit or can design an outfit in all black. We need to mourn our murdered glbtq brothers and sisters and we need to march in the streets that we know haters are located so that they can get the point.

    • I like the idea of wearing black…though I also understand others’ perspectives that we should be demonstrably alive to validate our lives.

    • No matter what Paterson supports, he also tried to cover his assistant’s sexual violent behavior. So he seems to want gays to marry but also wants to help hurt women… not a tough decision for this woman. Get the F out.

    • What a fool this Franks is. Last I checked murder was illegal. I have never seen stats saying 1/2 of black children are being killed.

Abortion kills a fetus, not a child.

  • davidwithak Said: March 2nd, 2010 at 2:48 pm
    • Sorry, that fetus is an unborn child. Abortion is MURDER. It should not be allowed except for rape, incest or health of the mother. k

  • Alleyne Said: March 3rd, 2010 at 12:49 pm
    • davidwithak your argument is built on sand, and you give yourself away in your comment. If abortion is murder of an innocent unborn child, why should it be permissible in the case of rape and incest. The child didn’t commit the rape or incest, why should it be murdered because of its origins? If you honestly believed that abortion was the equivalent of walking up to living, existing person and killing them, with intent and forethought, then your only exception would be a grudging allowance for the life of the mother, nothing else.

Why don’t you go sort out the massive gaping holes in your own moral fabric and come back when you have some clarity?

    • DJAlexander89:
It’s funny that you bring up that song, because not many people know that 2 of the members in that band are gay. His song “Mama” has Liza Minnelli in it, too.
