Withers: Fred Davie will work on Obama’s faith initiative

Fred Davie. Learn that name because if I were a betting man I would say he is going to be talking point for the religious right. Davie has been picked to serve on President Barack Obama’s Policy Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Davie is the president of the Public/Private Venures, a non profit that works with low income communties. You would think that would cut Davie some slack, but he’s also gay and we all know how conservative religious folk freak out when the words gay and faith are used in the same sentence (good morning Ana!). If the right were smart, they would look at the work Davie has done with high-riskĀ teenagers and prisoners becuase ultimately that is the work that matters.

This is wonderful news! Looks like Obama does want to be president of all people.
Now, if we could only find a nice Jewish lesbian to be ambassador to the Vatican.
Rachel Maddow!
This is very good news.
Let’s hope Mr. Davie provides a counterbalance to the far right members who are disproportionately represented in this committee.
Although I’m not a gay person myself, my website challenges the religious right understands of these issues within the Bible. I demonstrate that Conservative and Fundamentalist groups lean on unprovable academic theories to exaggerate their preconceived sexual sensibilities within the Bible.
Hot diggety! Thank you for that news Mr. Withers! Let’s just pray that he paid his taxes… What a lovely counterweight to an office that’s gonna be getting a lot of attention – a black(!), gay(!!) man to deal with the foam-at-the-mouth-wingnuts. It’s gonna get gorgeous real fast. This is one dude I’m gonna watch real close. Thanks for introducing me to my favorite new man in DC!
Thank you James for this post.
I would say that this is good news!
Congratulations, Fred!!
