Withers: Please muzzle Ted Haggard

Shut-up! Shut-up! Shut-up! God, shut your toothy trap! How long is this Ted Haggard speaking tour going to go on? I’m an ardent fan of the First Amendment, but when it comes to Haggard I want to add a provision that keeps him from the public square for 25 years.

From Larry King to Oprah to morning TV shows, we’ve had Haggard reminding us of his sorry story. I understand he needs to make sure we all watch the HBO documentary about his post scandal life, but what is up with this guy? It’s like he grooves to the public flogging. Anyone who says the following line needs what both grandmas called a whippin’:

“People want you either to be heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual, whatever. And my counselor says I’m a heterosexual with complications, whatever that means.

If allowed to, I would take you on a curse filled tirade about that line, but I like working for 365 so use your imagination.

Ultimately, the whole Haggard tour has nothing to do with sexuality and everything to do with the former reverend being a simple fame whore. When he preached, he was adored and had a captive audience every week who hung on his every word. When that was taken away, the solitude was too deep and silent (the status most of us have as we spend our time on this spinning land mass), so he had to have the glare again. Junkie punk. And if it meant throwing out comments best reserved for a comic’s routine, then so be it. Do anything to get the crowd again.

    • I watched the HBO and Larry King interview…the only thing that doesn’t sit well w/ me..he wants to say he has these feelings cause he was abused or messed around w/ someone in the 7th grade. I know if my Mother seen that..that would confuse the hel* out of her & wonder if thats what happened to me..just be what you are. I do feel sorry for his wife and kids. They seem nice.

    • I watched the HBO documentary. I was curious to hear what he had to say. I came away feeling sorry for his children. His wife is an adult and has made her choice. The children didn’t deserve what they’ve had to endure the past few years. Haggard seemed most upset about that too, and admitted it was his own fault multiple times which I suppose is admirable.

He’s a 50 plus man who’s faith tells him his sexuality will cause him eternal damnation. It’s what he’s believed all his life. He’s not ready, willing, or able to change that. I doubt he ever will be. He will go to his grave denying what appears to be the truth about himself. No matter how much any of us tell him otherwise, he can’t do it.

      I feel pity for him.

    • Well, I’m with Ted on this one–I’m gay with complications. To be clear, I find some women extremely attractive but the thought of having sex with them is something that does not cross my mind EVER!

Like Rod Blagojevich, both are clearly in denial, LOVES publicity (and seeing their faces plastered on any media), infatuated with the sound of their voices and are narcissistic. Hmmm…sounds like some gay guys I know. These two need to go on tour together a la Elton John and Billy Joel.

Hey, it could be worse. Sarah Palin just created SarahF*CK, oops, I mean SarahPAC. Do what I did, urge her to run again in 2012. Just a form of insurance to get Obama reelected.

    • Can a new leader of the “Ex-Gay” movement be brewing? He is still claiming he has had the “gay” struck out of him and that he wants to return to the church. My guess is that he will have summer camp for gay boys and end up telling bedtime stories.
I did appreciate that he actually told some of the truth. He has feelings towards men. He is still struggling. But that is the end of my pity party for Teddie boy.
How about the Mrs.? Total denial and self hatred. I like that the kids have stood behind him because many gay people who struggle lose that and more.
I am also a heterosexual with complications. I love c*ck. Can’t get any more complicated, right?
Keep your eyes on Exodus. I bet Randy Thomas is snuggling with Lorraine trying to keep the gay away and also Teddy boy. Randy has a blog on Vox. Or did until I got after him. He kept sharing stories of him and his ex lesbian girlfriend. He “met” with Ted two days before his big “struggle” became public so keep an eye on that viper pit. Watch Exodus for a Ted endorsement.

    • Hey Gab, I am no huge fan of publicity-seeking Ted. If I were Ted, I would keep my yap shut and do all I could to disappear into obscurity by shunning the media and maintaining a no comment attitude. If I were Ted, I would say, media, we’ve talked enough, it’s just my family and I from now, and away with you.

Sure Ted got his pecker into a few “male-boxes”. Ted is G A Y. as senior says, but so confused he doesn’t know as of yet “which way to point his pecker”.

Unlike Ted, I am 100% grade A 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 gays a year and I know that and welcome that whereas Ted doesn’t know what to do with his G A Y problem.

Simple, Ted, quit kidding yourself and quit lying to your wife and kids and leave for gay man with a kid or two of his own who needs a man same as you need a man.

But Gab, I really get a kick out of you saying that “Ted is most entertaining and despite his “meantal illness” that shows by his being religious, he’s likable” I just have to hold onto my seat when read that.

Well, Gab, inspite of my being a full-time round the clock ceritfied grade A queer, I share some Ted religious mental illness, I go to church weekly and I just love every minute of “being mentally ill”. Insanity, no problem, loving every minute of it.

Cartoon: Maniacal laughter hee, heee, haa, haa he haa. “He’s going to church, quick call 911 and while you guys are at it, get the men in white coats ask them to bring electric shock treatment equipment after him, quick get him he’s going into his church”! maniacal laughter again as he enter church saying “I am in my safe haven now and I can be as czazy as I want inside here and you can’t stop me now”. Church door closing, maniacal laughter heard from outside by the stamp out religious insanity police who must wait outside the church until man made insane by religion exits the safe haven of his church and then it’s “We’ll grab him, strap him down on this gurney and shove a gag into his mouth so he won’t bite his tongue off and put the headgear on and zap him until he forgets the insanity of church or if he won’t forget church, until he simply slumps over in a chair and drools and can’t enter another church ever again”.

That’s all folks, hee, heee, end of cartoon.

    • Ted wouldn’t be doing this unless he thought he had something to gain from it. We just don’t know what that is yet. There must be something in it for his wife as well. Wait and see!

    • If “box” = “vagina”, he’s right. I’m guessing he doesn’t even spend much time in his wife’s box. He may not want to label himself, but the dude’s as queer as pink ink. His desire for other men says it all.

    • Poor Ted. He’s male with human overtones. When he told King that he didn’t fit in any box, I subconsiously deduced that he was alluding to a Fraudian closet. I really sympathized for his son who was subjected to an on-air grilling on a issue that he no control over and created entirely by his egotistical father. The man continues to be a big-mouthed uber family patriarch, albeit a victim of his inner urges. Inspite of my deep dislike for his relegious background (penticostal ignorance) I still can’t help but feel some pity for his lack of intellectual freedom to seek a happy resolution for his sexual identity. I recommend that he seek out the Metropolitan Community Church and find a closer relationship with his “God” and come to understand the true meaning of the scripture that says to love thy neighbor “as thy self”. Until he accepts himself and all his human foilbles, including the ability to forgive his own faults and accept his inherent sexuality, I think we should expect to hear more of ex-Pastor Ted’s whinings ad nuausium in the future.

  • Gab Said: January 30th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
    • I disagree. Ted’s honing his skills for a talk or reality show. He’s most entertaining and despite the mental illness he shows by being religious, he’s most likable. So, let’s permit him some room to practice and then perhaps he’ll get his own mainstream show. Yay Ted!

    • What bugs me about the Oprah interview is that he is making it all sound like a choice.
I hope for Gayle there are no more scandals but my money is on another one poping up in the future. The whole HBO thing amazes me. If I had screwed up like that I would have changed my name and left the country. Or moved to San Fanciso or New York, grown a beard and came out, and still changed my name.

    • I remember the uber media coverage this guy received a few years back. I’ve heard portions of his recent talks with Oprah, Larry King, CBS The Early Show and select snippets from HBO and I really don’t know what he’s trying to say. One thing that did catch my ear, he doesn’t like “labels”. Mike Jones admitted he was a prostitute, but Haggard is “whoring” his way through all the media again. Hey Ted, that’s the correct label for you…”media WHORE”.

  • Triton95 Said: January 30th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
    • I agreed, I dont think his actions has nothing to do with his sexuality. Ir he was heterosexual he will be doing the same thing to girls.

  • gay senior Said: January 30th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
    • For god’s sake Ted; can’t you just say that you’re G A Y and get on with it?

I thought that his son and daughter who talked to Oprah, were the only ones in his family with any credibility! His wife Gayle still talks about “choices”; god, woman, get over it!!
Ted, what exactly are you up to anyway??
