Discrimination dehumanizes all people who experience it whether it is discrimination based upon gender, disability, or sexual orientation.

To be denied a job, housing, tax breaks, and famility protections not based upon merit and inspite of full citizenship status is a form of exclusion from society. A form of economic and social genocide that has the end result of marginalizing and crippling an entire class of American citizens.Gays.

How?

By forcing Gays to hide who they are if they want to keep their jobs, health and lives. Hiding means a diminished pursuit of happiness....not holding hands with the sun on your face without fear of retribution, enjoying a slow dance in a nice restaurant with live music from a baby grand piano and lovely surroundings, kissing goodby at the airport, picking up your child together from school, filling out that rental agreement together for fear of being denied because you are of the same-sex....all the relationship reaffirming that heterosexuals enjoy daily.

The rejection from society and family sends teen gays to the streets to live as homeless and, in some cases, turning tricks. Dying from street related activities. Relationships relegated to dark and badly kept bars encourages fringe living....excessive drinking, drugs and casual sexual encounters and the increase in the possible spread of HIV.

I am sure many of you can add to this list....my point is that I have not mentioned Black Homophobia once nor made race an issue in the argument for equality. I actually think there should be consideration for excluding race in the discussion altogether. It is just not that relevant.

I think race has come up so often because of the law on the books that must be argued in order to win Gays rights has to do with fact patterns involving race. Other than that, why discuss it at all in the explainations regarding why discrimination against gays is an act of inequality that dehumanizes?

In this vein, comments like "back of the bus" and "Gay is the new Black" should just be not be said. Even though those who say these comments believe they are a short cut from mind to mind and express a complete and coherent thought regarding discrimination in regards to Gays, such is not the case. Don't be lazy and take the time to fully express in your own well thought out words, without mentioning race, why discrimination against Gays is a form of inequality and a violation of the 14th Amendments Equal Protection, Due Process and Privileges and Immunities clauses.

Jonathan,

Still in need of some glasses I see.

You don't even seem to remember who were you quoting with that line.

Here's a hint: Rodney Moore, and I was quoting your response to it. Was your response to Rodney Moore's line a joke too?

Perhaps with those glasses you're so in need of you need to also sit on the couch and view MLKs speech on the Washington Mall before you go on so candidly calling people bigots. Keep wallowing joker!

Shamrock:

I'm not wallowing in "racial resentment." You pulled that one out of your a$$.

I have not once in this interaction tried to justify Black or any other type of homophobia. You, however, are attempting to justify Gay racism.

In case you forgot, you said "Alot of gay “racism” is not so much racism, but justifiable resentment of black homophobia."

I guess that makes it OK.

Since you obviously hate all Black people whether they are Gay or Straight, I won't talk to you anymore.

That last line was a joke just like your last few posts. Feel free to edit it out of context.

I won't respond to you anymore though. I dismiss bigots regardless of the group they claim.

"The hater taught hate and the hated became the hater"

Racism in the gay community never resulted in black rights being stripped away--nor did it even contribute to such a circumstance. Not so with black homophobia. How many gay men and lesbian women perpetrate hate crimes against blacks compared to how many blacks perpetrate hate crimes against lgbt'ers? LOL!

Anyway, until that happens--gay racism (which is inexcusable, don't get me wrong) simply isn't a more important issue than black homophobia. Anyone who disagrees doesn't know the difference between fiction and reality, and this artificial controversey will rage for unethical people who want to segregate confronting homophobia, and those who want to foment black homophobia (gay or straight).

Shamrock,

"Yes James Withers, who thinks that with his insensitive post on the appropriate etiquette white gays should use when addressing black people he has exposed a gay racism that in reality seems to be more present in people like him and Jonathan than in those white gays he’s trying to educate about racism."

That isn't even close to what was written, but I guess at this point it doesn't really matter.

Hope you are enjoying your week-end.

Sincerely,

James

Jonathan Said:Alot of gay “racism” is not so much racism, but justifiable resentment of black homophobia.
============
Thank you for acknowledging racism in the Gay comunity LOL

=============================================

Jonathan, that last response of yours is what's really indicative of why the conversation gets nowhere. By all means continue to wallow in racial resentment at the expense of gays and lesbians, you're in good company with the likes of Cannick and Withers.

Congratulations Jonathan, Gay people (including whites) are still third class citizens who don't enjoy any legal protections and rights when compare to any other group including Black people.

GrrrlRomeo:

I understand what you're saying. I keep saying some are running the risk of becoming the very thing they fight against.

Thanks for clarifying.

What Shamrock missed is that I was asking for just that, clarification of your comments as opposed attacking your point of view as he/she does mine.

By the way Shamrock, many of the things you mentioned still happen to Black people. I'm pretty sure you'll disagree.

I wish more Gay and Black activists saw that fact. There is common ground that could be a source of strength for both.

Your response is indicative of why the conversation gets nowhere.

Rodney,

"Until this happens, and I don’t see it happening, people like Withers need to shut the fu*k up and stop being an apologist for black, religious based, homophobia."

Loverly. Any other advice you want to throw my way?

Sincerely,

James
