Withers: Cosby calls out Hannity
Curmudgeon comic Bill Cosby, whose political outbursts usually get parsed by the Fox News peoples, decided on the week-end to call out Fox host Sean Hannity. When asked if he ever worried that a few of his rhetorical bombs about the black community are good fodder for folk who might not have the best interest of said community, Cosby was unmoved.
“I’m not worried about white people. Hannity – I’m not worried what he says, ” Cosby said. “I’m not worried about any racist people who are going to bring it up.”
Why the political theories of a comic get MSM treatment is beyond me (even with the Dr. at the beginning of his name). If Cosby were not famous his political ramblings would be as important as the theories your cranky grandfather tries to sell at every family get together.
Cosby did step in it though when he implied Hannity was a racist. Oh the Hannity is a lot of things and he can be critiqued on those. He’s an intellectual thug–anyone who in a book title equates liberal with terror and evil has not moved beyond middle school debate tactics; his Obama hatred is so deep Hannity turned to an anti-Semite to make the case against the president elect’s campaign.
The list of Hannity ills is long, but the racism charge from the Cos mirrors when Representative John Lewis compared John McCain to George Wallace. An older black man not understanding the racial tropes in the past do not match our time.

Why is this published here? Is Bill Cosby gay now?
let me get this straight: you think Sean Hannity is an intellectual [thug] and not a racist?! Tell me, when you’re listening to that bully spew his vitriolic contempt for blacks, immigrants, women, and gays, what part of his hate strikes you as “intellectual”?
Your judgment of Hannity and his rhetoric speaks volumes about you James
As LGBT people, we should really expect better of ourselves.
Suddenly I’m craving a puddin’ pop
Hannity, O’Reilly and Coulter are the equivolent of the bigoted, racist, homophobic bullies one encounters in Middle School and High School. There is no sound reason behind their rantings nor is their any quantifiable evidence to back up their idiotic outburts other than the sale of advertising during their shows, the selling of their books or being granted time as a guest speaker on some other irrelevant television program looking to grab healines by exploiting the prejudice that exists in people. If Americans would tune out or not dignify O’Reilly and Hannity’s ridiculous anti Liberal diatribes through argument, what they call a career would end and FOX would die off as a network.
One more thing; it really makes no sense to say that Cosby’s opinions don’t matter, but then turn around and right a pointless article about Cosby’s opinions. Just a small tip, if someone doesn’t matter, ignore them, drawing attention to them only shows that they do matter, or at the very least, that you do care about what they have to say.
Cosby wasn’t calling Hanity a racist. He was obviously listing the people who’s opinions don’t mean anything to him; among those people are Hannity and people who are racist.
Hannity is a racist. Hannity says that stuff about blacks not because he wants to help but because he wants to wag his finger.
James, come on.
You have to point out where Bill Cosby is incorrect in his speeches. He’s saying the things that actually need to be said.
(errr – other than giving Hannity publicity)
EXCUZZE ME???
Sorry, Moron, but an Anti-Semite IS a racist. What the hell is happening to the so called intellectuals of this site?
They are all, one by one, turning into corporate wanks who think the LGBTQA community needs to take the back seat of the bus – again.
I suppose Mr. ‘Withers’ has a book to sell and doesn’t want to ruffle any corporate feathers.
Grow a pair.
Get it together, 365!
I don’t even own a cosby sweater. I think Sean Hannity likes to barbecue–or at least have pictures of his constipated self taken while barbecuing. He’s a racist, alright. What happened to the intersection of oppression? Are you fomenting in group out group hostilities with this GAYLY irrelevant fluff piece?
I love the Cos, but I agree Bud…WTF? So much happening in our community, and this is what we get from this writer. I guess as long as race is involved, so is Withers.
Is it really possible that you are as stupid as you seem to be with this article? Is it really possible that because Hannity never actually says the N-word that you can perceive his views to be not racist? Is it really possible that someone pays you to write words?
Please, if what you feel you really need to do is write on behalf of the gay community, shut up. You are not helping.
Cosby, on the other hand, is helping. Please, Bill, continue to speak your common sense. It won’t make James very happy, but what it will take to make James happy is stupid, lock-step twaddle, so ignore him, please.
What, pray, does this have to do with the GLBTQA community?

Come on James… you’ve put out some excellent articles but this one looks rushed. Not to mention that you need to provide evidence for why Cosby is incorrect. If you rushed your research, like the writing of this article, than there is a possibility that you don’t know all the facts about what Cosby is referring to.
Cosby challenges the African American community in many ways, so if any individual is using his words as a blanket statement across the community then I could see how they could be labeled as racist. As members of the gay community is appropriate for us to challenge problems within our own community, but if an outsider took those statements to use a blanket statement on all gays then most of us would perceive that as homophobia.
