All of the black and brown gay and bi men who are still on the down low, that's who brought about the passage of Prop 8 by a larger majority in the black and Hispanic religious groupings. Because those black and brown ladies who have been lied to are not dumb or delusional, or really in denial. And they took the opportunity to punish their down-lows, and the rest of us gay and bi guys just got in the way...

What I truly believe is that this is social issue that is not a whole lot different than the fight for equal civil rights for people of all races. People look at gays as immoral and think less of them because they don't abide by the same principals as them. But isn't that what this country is all about? Having the freedom to make your own decisions? I sure think it is. I have a hard time understanding why someone thinks they should get to decide what you do and how you do it. Why should they be able to determine your relationship with another human. I say, if it makes you happy, roll with it. However, do it for the right reasons. Don't just pretend to be gay to be different and piss people off. Decisions made for the right decisions seem to be the best ones. I know that some of the most vocal opponents of gay marriage and gay rights are those who have strong religious beliefs. Since when has this country been ruled by the cross? Our government was founded on the principles of speration of church and state and must remain that way. In closing, my advice for those who oppose gay marriage is simply to mind your own business. If it bothers you, don't be gay! Remember, your opinion isn'y really as important as you think it is. : )

Eddie. I'm going to say this one more time. After this, I'm just going to conclude every word I say on this site goes through willingly deaf ears.

I have never, never, never,
never, never, said blacks and/or latinos were beyond criticism.

I want you to read the post before last and let it sink in.

If any gay person wants to go into the new frontier of racial criticism (aka, framing homophobia as a non-white problem, as if James Dobson, the Mormon Church, etc weren't white). Fine. But don't do so on my or any other gay persons behalf. Do it on your own.

But if we want to be truly fair, we will start regarding James Dobson and his ilk as white homophobes instead of simply homophobes. Are you ready for that?

Mark, I don't completely disagree with you but I remain unremoved with my belief that the singling out of black people for prop 8 is more rooted in the long running tradition of post-reconstruction de facto American racism.

Blacks seem to have earned the title of Divine Monsters. Our history is cherished but currently our people are not. How is it possible that we no longer struggle when the law and legislative system aims at transiting blacks into the new slavery? How is it possible to "embrace our true heritage as black people" when the country doesn't even flinch when hearing that a black male has greater chances ending up in a prison than college?

Citizen - No one gets a pass on homophobia - white or not. My white southern grandmother gets an ear full from me when I hear things from her about black people. I love her and respect her, but I also love her and respect her enough that I can tell her when she is dead wrong. Instead of excusing homophobia and/or racism from the black and latino community we should give them an ear full too. Expecting less from them is itsself a form of bias and bigotry.
