Withers: Coulter wins against NBC
Who is running the shop over at NBC’s Today show? Crazy as a loon Ann Coulter was booked to plug her new tome Guilty. Why Coulter still gets TV time is beyond me. It isn’t like she is saying anything new. Let me see if I can paraphrase the Coulter oeuvre: liberals are namby pamby atheistic communists who want American daughters, and sons, sodomized by the terrorists. Conservatives, however, love their God (Christian) and country and defend freedom with no fanfare from the biased media.
I miss anything? If NBC wanted to talk to a serious and smart conservative, why not pick Bryon York, Mark Steyn, or Conn Caroll. The first two are associated with the National Review, the magazine that gave Coulter her walking papers after some 9/11 mess she wrote. Maybe smart and serious don’t mesh well in the morning.
Anyway, after picking Coulter, the show decides to drop her and the excuse given was lamer than any lie I’ve told a bill collector. She was dropped, allegedly, because the news from Washington D.C. and Israel was just too breaking. Fair enough, but Perez Hilton’s new book found time to break through all of that riveting news coverage?
I’ve never been a fan of the Coulter, but this mess pulled by NBC will just line her pockets with book cash. She’ll now head over to Fox News (as she did last night) and cry about the liberal media doing her wrong. And the Coulter as victim routine grates you know? If TV executives want to keep putting her face on the screen, fine. Have her on, be fair and tough, give her a donut and some coffee when the interview is over and call it a day. Everything else just gives her more time to roll out her nuttiness.

And posting a blog here about this waste of space foul hearted [person] serves what purpose?
Of course a man is going to write about this. Thanks James. Any chance to stick it to a woman, gay straight, black or white. Or ghastly bi. That’s why it was blogged about.
Ann is better off! Queers, go figure…
For the record…I did NOT refer to her as a [person]. That must have been a moderator. Don’t know why I can’t use the word for a female dog on this post. It wouldn’t be the first time reading an expletive in the comments on this site. Double standard?
Ann who?!?
I hadn’t heard about this loser for a long time. The reason you bring her up is what? Leave her to the echo chamber of fox news.
If you are concerned about Coulter getting TV time, why are you giving her time on a gay site? She’s anti-gay to be sure, a nut-job for certain – but it seems a real waste of time and space to even mention her here at all. The woman thrives on attention, especiallu negative attention. The sooner all the media outlets STOP giving her a platform, the sooner this sad creature will go away.
Thank you for your observation Debra. I thought I was maybe the only one who realized the censorship that goes on with this site. Glad I’m not the only one who has clued in.
Hi Debra,
I edit sexist, homophobic, racist, or foul language as I see it, or as it is brought to my attention, as do James and Emma. We’re trying to keep discussion out of the realm of name-calling – and if you all would help us with that, we’d be grateful. Thanks.
jennifer,
I am a grown-up, capable of editing myself. if ever there was a more deserving person of all the foulness that could possibly be heaped upon them..this is the girl. “Bitch” is the least of the foul I could have used, and I considered that restraint on my part.
I can do you a favor and get my gay news elsewhere…surely there’s a site for adults somewhere out there.
Yep, Debra, we are all grownups here, and I appreciate the time you take to post.
The nature of internet comments, though, means that sometimes we say things in public with inappropriate language that should be reserved for private conversations. We all know that. And all of us can use an editor now and then, myself included.
I’d rather be more vigilant about language than less – I know the tone of the comments at 365gay sometimes makes people feel uncomfortable about posting. I am very hopeful that we can strike a good balance between being a welcoming community and strongly opinionated individuals.
Anyway, we are continuing to figure out what that balance should look like, given our limited time and resources here in editorial – your thoughtful comments are welcome, as always.
Jennifer,
Thanks for the lesson. You know though, in looking around the web at my other options for gay news, I have discovered that this site is steps behind the rest…in blogging content, editing and stories posted in the “breaking news” section. (I mean really Withers, f’in Ann Coulter?!? What self-respecting gay person would ever give a flying f what this cretin says and does?)
For example, did you know that 2 men were beheaded in Saudi Arabia on Dec 31 for homosexuality? You are the only gay news site not talking about it today. You want to stop being a hall monitor on the comments section and report some news?
I truly believe that Ann Coulter is a drag queen. (Check out her Adam’s Apple!) That could be the only reason that she appears on a gay site.
I think the bloggers must have run out of sodomy and Larry Craig stories!
Trace,
I write about what interests me. Sometimes it’s gay. Sometimes not.
Sincerely,
James
But in fairness, most of the time it’s terribly banal, James.
