By James Withers, contributing editor, 365Gay Blog 01.02.2009 8:10am EST

Two men and two teenagers have been arrested in the gang rape of a California lesbian. Suspect Humberto Hernandez Salvador was arrested at his home on Wednesday. Two boys, one 15 the other 16, were apprehended the same day. Suspect Josue Gonzalez turned himself in to authorities on Thursday when it was announced he was wanted on charges of gang rape, kidnapping and carjacking.

The four are charged with the December 13 crime of beating, raping, kidnapping, and robbing a 28 year old female  victim. The 45 minute attack began after the victim got out of her car and  the assailants saw a rainbow sticker on the vehicle. As reported by the police, the suspects made comments about her sexuality. The attack is also being investigated as a hate crime.

Tips from local residents led to the arrests of the suspects.

    • Such a shame none of these are capital offenses.

    • Thanks for keeping us updated. This is a terrible crime, and the perpetrators should be castigated stringently!

    • Three Hispanics and one black….these are the people who made the difference in instituting proposition 8. Still there are some who can’t get their heads around as to why we care about marriage equality. We care because when the government institutes a different set of rules for one group of people its sending the message to criminals like the ones in this story that it is socially acceptable for them to act out their bigotry against the group that’s treated inferior by the government.

    • “castigated stringently!”

…methinks castrated would be a more appropriate punishment.

    • I’m waiting for someone to post on here about how we need to go easy on the 15 and 16 year old.

    • If we act like an angry mob, you know they’ll only use it against us.

When society okays discrimination against a group, of course hate crimes against that group will increase. There’s been several reports about that already.

I hope they’re prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And I’m hoping that means life.

    • Why bring race into the mix…what gay minorities, what bout those that voted in favor of not passing prop 8. Try and be fair and don’t always make judgements bout minorities when it is homophobes doing what the do best…HATE!!!!

    • “Why bring race into the mix…what gay minorities, what bout those that voted in favor of not passing prop 8.”

Thank you for saying that. Every time someone brings that up, I as a gay, black man feel even more alienated. Just like it took a cross cultural vote to make Obama President, it took a cross cultural vote to pass prop 8. That’s all that needs to be said.

I’m glad these guys were captured. Thank you community for your tips. (if it was blacks and Hispanics that perpetrated, then it was most likely the same people who came forward to have them caught)

    • Justice makes a good point. We need to keep in mind that every group or community of people has its share of good and bad folks.

    • Really?! It looks that lately those two communities of color have been having more than their share of bad folks.

Jose Sucuzhanay anyone? Four to three homophobe murderers still at large.
Somehow I doubt that the black communities in Brooklyn are on the lookout for them.

“if it was blacks and Hispanics that perpetrated, then it was most likely the same people who came forward to have them caught”

…Could it be that they feared that they would end up raping any woman regardless of their sexual orientation? Bet ya they don’t feel the same about cases like Sucuzhanay’s!

    • Glad to see that the police and other people are taking violence like this seriouslly. It’s refreshing to know that people do care.

I don’t care about the race of the bad guy because it doesn’t matter. No man should ever force sex on a woman or a man. Guys and maybe even gals like that ruins sex and turn it into something horrible and evil.

    • This story is a complete fake – there is no homophobia in the latino community. :)
